It's a shame that Sony has all but abandoned this program. I started using it way back when it was ACID Pro 2. It would be nice to see it updated, but I don't think that is ever going to happen.

Anyone tried it yet?
When I run the "Acid.exe" file (using the "Run as administrator) I just get a message saying that the app was unable to load a required component: vcomp.dll
...and it stops right there.

(Windows 8.1 64bit, No AV installed or running, UAC is off)

Thanks Zeus and boujwa. It worked right after I decided to install the 32 bit version (vcredist_x86) of the MS visual C++ package (the 64bit did nothing).
It's windows 8.1 64 bit so it shows the OS 32/64 bits doesn't matter, this portable Acid runs in 32 bit so the fix was to install the x86 vcredist.

The audio runs fine when using the (slower) microsoft mapper or the classic wave driver but when selecting ASIO nothing helps, the app gets slow and the audio gets "stuck" until it's distorting. Probably this version doesn't like the new Windows+newer ASIO drivers for the M-Audio card here.

This one gave me nothing but trouble back in 2011. Dropped MIDI commands, instability, etc. But I still thank for that lesson, since it motivated me to try REAPER which I use to this day, and I'm not going back.

I've been running this on Win 10 for a couple years without any issues and now suddenly it crashes when I open any file. Any work around this?

Such a handy and unique tool, too bad they dropped it. Is there anything else similar now?
