Easily add the warmth and character of analog tape to your tracks with a faithful plugin emulation of Apogee's legendary Soft Limit™

Soft Limit tape emulation - The secret Ingredient in Apogee Converters
Soft Limit has been an integral feature of Apogee converters since the AD-500, our first standalone A-D converter released in 1991. And now, for the very first time, this simple but highly effective analog tape emulation is available as a free audio plugin.

During development of the AD-500, we recognized that, while the new digital audio technology offered superior performance and lower distortion, the technical deficiencies of analog tape created a pleasing sound that engineers didn’t want to give up. And so Soft Limit was created, an analog circuit placed before the A-D conversion stage to gracefully round transients and add harmonic warmth.

Soft Limit has been a feature on pretty much every Apogee A-D converter since, from the AD-8000 to Symphony I/O to the latest Duet 3.

No ilok required to work, but it's absolute dog poop, branding means nothing.

They give this away sporadically, and doesn't require any iLOK authorization. And this is a quality plugin, despite whatever the naysayers are nay-ing about today.
The product description is accurate but slightly misleading; this plugin makes more sense if you think of it of having characteristics of a converter, not a tape emulation. Either way, it doesn't sound like "dog poop."

Soft Limit
Version 1.0.15

What’s New in Version 1.0.15?

▪ Resolves issues with meters
▪ Resolves issue with delay compensation
▪ Resolves issue with latency
▪ Resolves issue with DAWs crashing
▪ Resolves issue with plugin opening in mono on stereo tracks in FL Studio
▪ Resolves issue settings not being saved
▪ Resolves issue with presets not appearing in VST3 format

I actually got this last year when it was free and it was still at the same version. So no need to update if you got yours last year!
y'all got anymore of those plugins??

That was the changelog for version 1.0.14

I wonder what was actually new in this release...

I use this since day one, it's a kind of "tape clipper", there's nothing with the same sound, hard to define, sort of soft clipper but with roundness in high freqs. It is on all my bass sounds almost every time: acoustic, 808, synth bass, bass guitar

and it has 0 latency for live sessions

Only 16 samples of latency when you use oversampling.

Agreed, mostly. I can get similar results in one fashion with Standard Clip and, moreso and less-so, with Event Horizon in Clip mode, so essentially DAC clipping, but this still has its own sound. I often use it litely, on busses.

Lol @dog poop…i do agree 100% with eXaCT ‘nd Patatern, was free since zero days for apogee users, the Symphony Apogee audio cards using the same patented tech on board, is good to use also on mix bus :)

Good to know. I wasn't aware of that.

This is amazing on snares. Cuts the sharp transients and smooth the annoying top end at the same time

I got this for free when it was first released. I tested it against my default freeware clippers (PeakEater, FreeClip). I preferred the sound of the freeware clippers.
