This is a Class A discrete compressor inspired by classic designs, known for its smooth, musical compression and rich analog character. It features transformer-balanced input and output stages and utilizes a diode bridge topology, delivering a warm, vintage sound often associated with iconic British consoles. A specific modification introduced by a renowned mastering studio enhances this compressor’s versatility, particularly for mastering and bus compression applications.

This any good? I don't know this compressor.

It's a catastrophy.

Aaaannnd....?

Do you have any argument / example to illustrate your very slicing opinion?

What were the conditions of your test? What DAW? What OS? What kind of music? Etc........

Yes. A too early low and high pass, a different frequency response at different settings.
A treble boost because of a lower attack?

Absolutely unreliable.

Thanks for your answer but... "A different freq. response at different settings", isn't it exactly the behavior of a piece of real hardware?

Because this aspect alone matches very well with my experience, for example:

For long time, as a bands guitarist I used different tube amplifiers (mainly Marshall and Peavey), I realized that even a very little modification of the gain of the input stage, or a very tiny change of the "Master volume" pot can change dramatically, not only the frequency response, but also the dynamic response of the hardware.

But even without touching anything, any subtle (or not) modification in the way I hit the strings of the guitar can change everything. This is the fundamental unpredictability of analog circuits, you can always try to circumvent / tame it, you can never avoid it 100%.

A Voltage-controlled oscillator disapproves.

It's just bad engineered hardware then.

huh.... interesting...that description sounds like the way vintage analog gear actually behaves! Have you tried dialing it in to taste on individual tracks? old gear is way more about vibe than precision. it "breathes", "lives" and "glues".... character.

Gonna give it a go anyway. Will see if it's any good.

It's based upon the excellent AMS NEVE 33609N bridged diode stereo compressor limiter in case anyone wants to test/shootout with the other plugins around attempting to emulate the real thing FWIW.

It's not the type of dynamic range controller that excels at heavy compression/crushing/smashing source material I've always found (be it the real thing or any of the plugin takes on them), what it does great is achieved applying it on busses and full mixes being conservative/stingy with the amounts of gain reduction applied.

It can be used in any way you like but it's not rapid like an 1176, dbx 160 or Valleypeople Dynamite kings of handling any percussion nor does it lend itself to optical-type applications (Joe Meek-esque for example it is not).

Once you clearly can hear it in action on your material try dialling things back from that point, I tend to use it towards the end of chains before a last equalizer and true peak-limiter + clipper mostly, the more extreme processing having already been handled by other tools that excel for such purposes..again FWIW and naturally YMMV

Seriously? Not as fast as dbx160? With an attack time of 50 us?
