Nice one! Glad I can try for more than 7 days, that's like... two or three mixes before I can decide if I want to buy. Looks like Eddie from Kiive doesn't sleep, he seems to release at least one plugin a month. Dude works hard and doesn't shit on people with copy protection, even when doing contract work for other companies. Pure respect, he deserves the money.

Edit: holy fucking shit, this sounds awesome. Insta glue, one at the vocal and another one in the mix bus and boom, sounds better instantly. Mixhead can suck a big one compared to this, damn.

I never thought that a tape plugin would inspire me. It sounds incredibly good. With 7 different models you are well stocked. You also have 5 EQ bands, which I personally find very important. Very successful emulation, sounds more like hardware to me. Perfect for glue in the mix with a high-resolution touch in the highs without sounding generic. Definitely a next generation plugin for me. Thank you F4A and Hidera.

It's same as Kiive Audio ---- based on open source HISE project......

Does it really matter, that it was build with HISE?
It needs to sound good and it does imo. :)
NoiseAsh stuff for example is also built with HISE and sounds pretty great too.

who cares. im not a dev (although i am learning lol), and im not going around compiling code, optimizing it, combining it with other code, creating UI, and releasing a plugin that sounds good. If it sounds good, it is good, i dont care if it was made by monkeys throwing poop at a keyboard or coded by Serban Ghenea using a custom Louis Vuitton 24k gold plated keyboard .

The website states that HISE offers the capability of “Modular architecture. Create your plugin using drag & drop elements, use scripts for advanced settings, or dive into C++ for maximum flexibility.”

Perhaps it’s not that simple, and the quality of the plugin depends on the people who create it? Of course, there are scammers selling attractive packaging, but there are also passionate and capable programmers who are now being assisted by ChatGPT, the cloud, etc.

So you're telling me other companies with their own custom codebase such as UAD, Softube and Waves are making plugins from scratch every time they make a new one? Of course not, they already have piles of code that amount to almost any possible framework. There is zero issue in using a framework if the end result is good and performant.

There is respect for the people who build from the low level, but there is no reason for disrespect to the people coding from a framework. Like almost everything these days.

Just because it was made in HISE doesn't mean it's cobbled together from open source algorithms. A lot of developers use it because of the work flow. You can use your custom code but it's quick to arrange signal paths and create a UI in HISE.

I'm seeing a bunch of everything needed for plugins *except* algorithms, am I missing something?

I remember when people where bashing Lennar Digital for using Synthmaker to build sylenth1 with custom CC+ as well, we all know the people bashing him were wrong.

Arturia has implemented open source models from Mutable Instruments in the Microfreak synthesizer and has been successful with it. For the user, the only thing that counts is the sound experience.

For the most part, I would say that the sound is the most important, but tape emulation is weird sometimes. Sometimes tape plugins use a collection of tricks instead of breaking new ground. I like the ad/da idea in this one.

sounds a-bitchin'. i like the ad converter option, not an option i'd have though of, but it provides a variety of timbres. and i like the in-out linking - every saturation plugin out there should provide that. and, unlike most, it actually attempts to preserve the levels, not just match the decibels.

Thanks for this!

If I wanted to emulate how these were used back in the day, I'd have one of these in the beginning of the mixchain, correct?

normally printing to tape is the final process ...

I'm using the DA88 preset on this and from what I've seen is that they're multitrack machines—I would've assumed it'd be first since you're mixing the recorded material then printing back onto whatever medium (Hi8/DAT/etc)
  Member 23.04.2023 1 97

normally, every single track would be recorded to tape, and then every bounce would be dumped onto another tape, including the master. so, it's actually compounded levels of tape.
  Member 23.04.2023 1 97

first you'd have a mic pre, depending on the source, then tape, then run it through the line pre of a console - if you were mixing on a console - then dump it on the master tape. of course, there's various levels of groups bounces and additional sends in between, if you need/want to use them.
