VMPC2000XL does not mimic the signal path, analog inputs/outputs so it doesn't make your samples sound "warm" or "dirty".
make it easy to create beats, manage sounds, etc. In fact, these things are all quite clumsy, but very much like the real 2000XL.
100% mimic the digital per-voice filter. It contains an approximation which I tweaked by ear, so it's likely a setting on the 2000XL doesn't sound the same in the emulator.
emulate the optional EB16 FX board.

Big Update: v0.5

A lot of effort has gone into this update. VMPC2000XL is now quite stable and I encourage everyone to try it. Some highlights of this update are:

Help button that links to the online documentation.
Show all keyboard mappings when hovering over the keyboard button in the top-right.
Hold Alt/Option/Ctrl while hovering over a keyboard-controllable component to see its key.
Type names in the Name window via keyboard, pads and buttons.
Auxiliary LCD which can be opened by double-clicking the LCD.
Use your favorite MIDI controller with VMPC2000XL. Go to Shift + 0 for VMPC settings, set 'MIDI control mode' to 'VMPC' and press F5 to go to the MIDI tab. Use LEARN to create a controller preset. Your active preset will be auto-saved. To name and manage multiple presets, press OPEN WINDOW. Presets are stored in ~/Documents/VMPC2000XL/MidiControlPresets. Let me know which controller you use and I'll try to add it to VMPC2000XL's bundled presets. Currently the only bundled presets are for the Akai MPD218, Akai MPD16 and iRig PADS.
[macOS] Separate utility 'FAT16 Mount Blocker' to prevent macOS from corrupting your MPC2000XL CF cards and other media. Just start the app, and as long as it's running in the background it will mount all FAT16 volumes as read-only. Note that if you only use up to 8 characters for your sound names, there is no corruption and hence no need for this utility. If you use up to 16 characters, you should use this utility.
Many bug and crash fixes.

Is it a video game ? The goal is to make a song ? 🤔
When everyone thinks the same thing, no one is thinking anymore !

I take the word "fun" back. This is complicated for nothing, geez- Do I need to video call Q-tip or Dj Premier?

Be grateful, it was far worse when he first released this 10 years ago or so and it wasn't even rescalable.

It's an Akai MPC2K emulation.

For authenticity.....

I just don't have the gigabytes in my brain right now to learn a whole new process like this.I really like the gui and hoped that I can just drag and drop and use FL piano roll to either drag BOOM BAP midi and just make it work.

As an XL owner/Lover i kind of dig this.
I prefer my XL over my X any day.
Peace.

Hey there,
I just wanted to ask you a quick question. Since you already own an XL, do you find the sound of this emulation close to that of the real hardware? I understand that this emulation isn’t intended to replace the actual gear, but would you say it sounds at least 40% similar?

its interesting if there is anything to really gain from this workflow

Interesting but the main feature is not emulated
“VMPC2000XL does not mimic the signal path, analog inputs/outputs so it doesn't make your samples sound "warm" or "dirty".”

You could have included a IR or even the open source NAM to “mimic the signal path”.

Absolutely. Standalone or in a DAW, it could use a DAC emulation or IR convolution.
Without it, it's merely a very nice looking but incomplete emulation.
Yes, you can always insert a bit reducer/crusher plugin but that's not going to work jamming in standalone. Yup, just something to consider since they've gone this far.

Yeah as an MPC user, I don't see the point if it doesn't emulate the signal path?? That is about the ONLY reason to use a 2K nowadays, and even that was a bit sterile compared to the 60/3000. Even bought the MPC Live in 2019, three years later it was back to Cubase again because it's just quicker, and Groove Agent walks all over it for chopping up breaks (and Akai still refuses to do ANYTHING with the sampler to this day, doesn't even have a mod matrix).

A little bit overkill.

I'd just download MPC Beats (free) and call it a day. Or TAL-Drum.

Nostalgia for those wanting to reminisce in this modern DAW era.
I had the MPC60, 2000XL and 3000 fully expanded for years. I get the feels looking at thus plugin/app again. Then I remember how much I don't miss the old MPC workflow or the file management/storage.

Still, I applaud the hard work done to recreate the whole look and feel. The sound is the
last step, if you want to go all the way there.
