Bertom Audio Vocal Compressor v1.0 WiN macOS LiNUX [FREE] screenshot

Vocal Compressor is a simple compressor plugin optimized for speech and singing voice.

It is heavily inspired by how mastering limiters work and features the same kind of lookahead (about 1ms) and program dependency but in a soft knee compression context.

Additionally, the "HF Sens" sidechain filter allows you to fine-tune the sensitivity to high frequencies. It is similar to what you can find on the back of a famous optical compressor.

LOL!... the youtube demo vid for this was uploaded only 5 mins ago. Thank you for providing this here so fast. Yeh it's free but having it here is more convient.

Actually it's advertised as pay what you want. I'll give them at least a dollar, why not.
Keep going...

A free Waves RVox Bertom doing some great work as always!

Btw; the Vocal mode in Pro-C 2 (with attack set to minimum and lookahead on) is also practically identical to RVox. The only difference is that RVox and this Bertom plugin has a slightly different and longer release.

So you think it's modelled after RVox compressor? Are you sure? The demo video sure sounded very promising and the HF Sensitivity (I guess a sort of internal sidechain highpass?) is really useful to hone in on the relevant spectrum of the signal!

It has the exact same transfer curve and attack/release envelope as Waves RVox, so yes. The only difference is that RVox has no HF sensitivity parameter, but it instead has a gate which this plugin doesn't have.

It could also be that both Waves RVox, the Vocal mode in Pro-C2 and Bertom Vocal Compressor are all based on an even older and unknown plugin (or maybe an algorithm from an old and obscure DSP chip?). I've always found it weird that the Vocal mode in Pro-C2 is almost identical to Waves RVox. Fabfilter doesn't strike me as a company that would copy stuff from other devs, but I could be wrong

I seem to recall reading somewhere that RVox itself was inspired by an LA2A setting, but don't quote me on that. Might be totally incorrect. What matters is that these settings are useful for vocal compression and there is no doubt that they are indeed!

Yep, they look suspiciously similar in PluginDoctor in all regards and I couldn't differentiate them soundwise even if they don't nil, surprisingly.
But there're two significant differences:
1. Bertom's uses twice as much CPU,
2. with open GUI it made my computer laggy as hell, as if at least one thread was at its max, but that wasn't the case at all. Sadly, this makes it close to unusable.

WiN7, Reaper.

Really? On my PC (Intel NUC with i7-8559u, Win 10, Reaper) it uses between 0.07 to 0.11%. It uses pretty much exactly as much CPU as ReaLimit does (even less most of the time), and my CPU is a pretty weak laptop processor! Could it be because you are on Win 7?

I can't be bothered to install the Waves bundle again, but IIRC RVox was using more than 0.1% of my CPU.

Btw; try sending him a bug report! I noticed that he has Win 7 listed as supported on the website, so if it uses that much of your CPU it's definitely a bug.

It didn't use much here either, I just thought twice as much as RVox is worth mentioning and a clear hint that there's something else going on. Maybe the HF is using CPU even if you don't make use of it.

Yep, I'll tell him that the AZ version is buggy.
Just kidding, good idea.

I do appreciate compressors with controls like attack-release-ratio at least-1176 like, but if they get it right (like the Waves RenVox, RenAxe and Klanghelm DC1A, MJuc) you learn how this one trick pony works, and end up using it on several channels, because you just can't be bothered with meticulous tweaking. Sometimes you just need that.

I can't wait to try it. I hope they got the program release nice and smooth. Bertom is making good plugins and just a few of them, perfecting them slowly over time, rather than releasing a ton of half-baked plugins. I like that. Kinda like Klanghelm. Cheers!

Bertom offer one of the best free plugins out there. Those who didn't try their denoiser and air band , give it a shot !

I was so impressed with the enthusiastic comments I read here about this and several of the other Bertom apps, I decided to give this one and several of the others that I found here a try. Unfortunately, I'm getting this weird runtime error on all of them that won't allow the installation. After spending a few hours trying to find a fix, I checked the developer's site only to find a FAQ entry he has about this problem. The developer has no fix for it and doesn't know what causes it.

I did find that if I use a Universal Extractor I could get the VST3 file on some, but not all of them. However, also extracted are some additional files and I have no clue as to what their structure should look like in a Win 10, VST3 file. So, can anyone share a pic of the installed file structure? If no pic is available a written description would probably work. Also, if someone feels like sharing a copy of the actual raw VST 3 files and folders (rather than the .exe files in the downloads here) that are in your installed folder it would be great since as I mentioned, the extractor only worked on a few of them. The Win 10 VST3 files aren't very large so hopefully it's not too great an ask. Would like to try all of them! Thanks!
