Native Instruments Kontakt PORTABLE 7 v7.7.0 WiN-vkDanilov screenshot
vkDanilov | 9 November 2023 | 595.2 MB
With KONTAKT 6, you can sound like a snare drum, a symphony orchestra, or anything in between, from a universe of sampled instruments. It’s a simple sampler when you want it to be, and a deep sonic scripting laboratory when you need something more. The next generation of the world’s favorite sampling platform gives you new instruments and new features under the hood – so you can layer, link, stretch, and shape your sounds any way you can imagine.

Additional functionality:
1. Activation of protected libraries is not required, the ability to register (add to bookmarks) in batch mode.
2. Ability to edit patches of protected libraries.
3. Possibility of resaving with samples patches of protected libraries.
4. Ability to edit password-protected scripts.

Features portable (PORTABLE) version :
1. Installation, including additional software (Service Center, Native Access, MS VS C ++ runtime), is not required.
2. All settings are saved in the program's portable folder (the Windows registry and other system stores are not used, administrator rights are not required * ).
3. Integrated Library Manager, which provides full control over protected libraries, and also allows you to register unprotected (self-made) libraries without generating nicnt files.
4. Ability to work simultaneously with the installed version of the Contact without conflicts and with different settings.
Notes:
* Requires (super)administrator rights if the portable program folder is placed in a protected system storage (for example, in Program Files) - such a location for portable programs is unnatural and not recommended.

Kontakt PORTABLE is not compatible with the NKS (Native Kontrol Standard):
1. Instruments of NKS-compatible libraries added to Kontakt PORTABLE will not appear on the screen of an NKS hardware device (Komplete Kontrol or Maschine). Accordingly, they cannot be selected, previewed and downloaded directly from the device's browser, but only through the interface of the Contact itself.
2. The controls of an NKS-compatible library instrument loaded into the Kontakt PORTABLE are not automatically bound to the controllers of the NKS device, only manually in the standard way for external MIDI devices (MIDI Learn).

The current portable Kontakt Portable I have installed is version 7.1.8, so when I try to install this (after uninstalling my current 7.1.8 of course), nothing carries over to the new version. So if I open up a project that used my 7.1.8, that is now 7.7.0, the instruments won't load, when I tried loading a project with it, it said that the library wasn't installed even after I added all my libraries to this new 7.7.0 version. Is there any way to install this WITHOUT losing all of my previous work?
Or a way to have both 7.1.8 and 7.7.0 installed at the same time?

You need to copy the UserData folder from the previous install to the new one. Since this is a portable version, the UserData folder has ALL the info required to make your new Kontakt look and function the same.

I've installed multiple versions of Kontakt v7 Portable (vkDanilov) by installing into a different folder (Kontakt v7.1.8, Kontakt 7.2.0, etc) and renaming the .dll in Kontakt7 > x64 > VST to a less generic name "kontakt_720" or whatever, then having the DAW (in my case, FL Studio) rescan. I presume this would work with the VST3 as well. Haven't had any problems so far. That said, I'm not a power user of Kontakt (and I don't use Kontrol), so don't know if some feature I don't use is negatively affected by this process. Also note I've got an old (Win7) and offline computer, but I imagine it could be done on other OSs as well.

Weird, cuz when I tried making a whole new folder for the new version, it replaced my old one. And I tried renaming, but when I looked in my windows settings of installed apps, it seemed like it only let me have 1 be installed at a time (I tried installing the new version without uninstalling my current one) and it still showed only 1 being installed

I'll try again tho, just to be sure

I just tried again, and when the new one was installed, it completely replaced my current one. I tried renaming the new one to "kontakt 7.7.dll" and that worked to open the new one that way, but when I tried to open my previous one with the old dll, it crashes my DAW and doesn't load.

What steps do you take when installing a 2nd portable kontakt?
Here's what I did:

I extracted the files to a new folder called "kontakt 7.7"

Opened the install app, and renamed the new one to "kontakt 7.7 portable", and it installed afterwards

Then when I try to open a previous project containing the old kontakt, it says files are missing and can't load, even after rediscovering all my libraries.

P.S. I think the main problem of it not being to open correctly in old projects, is that the layout is completely different, Kontakt 7.1.8 looks like the normal kontakt we all know, and the new one's interface is completely different

Well, I "solved" my problem by just installing the newest R2R release along with my 6.7.1 R2R release, thankfully I'm able to have both installed at the same time unlike the portable ones. I mainly wanted a newer version of Kontakt to be able to use Gravity 2, which I am now able to do with the newest R2R release.

I had the same issue where the libraries were blank upon loading a new instance. The "View Rack View" doesn't display any libraries initially, but found a solution:

Load Portable into Daw, Just click "View", then choose "Rack View" from the drop down menu, then simply click "LIBRARY" and the libs will appear on the left column as normal

Yea, but the problem with me, is that it won't load the library itself in previous projects, so if I actually updated to the new version, all previous projects with the older kontakt would be unplayable

That's weird dude. I'd try reinstalling the old version, and ensure all libs are scanned etc. Make sure it works in your DAW, then reinstalling this NEW one on top of it - I just installed this one here on top of the older one, re-writing existing files (Yes to all), and it worked fine (as I said, still have to do the 'view rack view', then click on LIBRARY - I never need to copy any User Data etc either

Yea I tried that, cuz once I install the new version, and the kontakt in my previous projects no longer work, I have to reinstall the old one in order to get them working again. So after reinstalling the old one, I did try reinstalling the new one over it, but still had the same issue.

Like I mentioned before, I think it's something to do with the new kontakt layout (the current portable one I use is the old kontakt layout that everyone knows), and the new one the layout/library page is completely reworked and different. So I think it may be an issue with the compatibility of the old one to the new one.

this step was the key step:
renaming the .dll in Kontakt7 > x64 > VST to a less generic name "kontakt_720"
From your description, not sure that you did that.

Well there were a few times I didn't do that, but I did also try this a few times.

What ended up happening when I did that, was when I tried loading the renamed plugin (new version), it loaded, but when I tried loading the previous dll (old version) it would crash my DAW and not load

I'm having the same issue that was in the first release of v7.6.0; my DAW seems to crash when I launch the plugin.

Working fine in Win 7, both standalone and vst3

Is this the v7.7.0? The installer, the plugin and the standalone says v7.6...

I get some weird GUI twitching on the VST3 on Ableton 11. The standalone seems fine though.
