Pulsar Modular P440 Sweet Spot v0.9.3 WIN/MAC [MORiA] screenshot
AudioZ Exclusive
MORiA | April, 22 | AU | VST3 | AAX | 177.1 MB

P440 Sweet Spot You have very likely heard words similar to the following uttered many times about mastering: “it makes the music come to life” or “it is the final polish that transitions into something breathtaking” or “It is like… magic!”. The wizardry lies in the hands of the practitioner of course, but surely, as all wizards wield an unassuming yet infinitely powerful device that is a conduit between their mystical knowledge and the physical world, so does the mastering engineer. To the wizard, it is the magic wand and to the mastering engineer, it is the equalizer.

Forget everything you have been taught about “High Passing” frequencies below 30Hz, and welcome to Sweet Tremor boosting infrasonic frequencies! Attenuate frequencies and you end up with a punchier and open sound! Boost frequencies and end up with sweet cotton candy all over your ears! Scream in horror when you check in Plugin Doctor the low shelf at 200 Hz or the high shelf at 2 kHz with a “stairway to heaven” graph, but then melt in your chair when you listen to it- like candy on a hot summer day. Nothing makes sense …visually but your ears tell you otherwise.

P440 Sweet Spot will let you rethink what an EQ can do. P440… your mystical magic wand.

Is this based on some hardware EQ?

Thanks Moria!

Thanks MORiA

I think it's based on the Sontec 432.

P440 Sweet Spot is not based on any previous hardware EQ designs or topologies, nor does it copy the curves of any existing EQ. Instead, it is an entirely new and liberated design that is not constrained by the physical limits of hardware. It unleashes what the EQ designer heard in his ears, imagined in his mind and felt in his soul.

When you look at the price of their plugins idk who can afford it.
It's kind of niche. isnt it better to sell way more 100$ plugins than a few 350$ one ?

I like how the 3 bands EQ center section is designed.

1. Q selection, fine Q controls.
2. Stepped Frequency selection with fine control so you can get high resolution quicker than using a super high resolution frequency selection or just stepped selection.
3. Big Gain knob is proportional Q but based on the main Q selection and Q fine tune, if you like where you are and want to fine tune, the Fine dB control wont change the Q value (fixed Q) just increase or decrease gain. This is the first time seeing things like this. Tricky but neat.

The Low and High (Shelves & Filters) controls are confusing af and will need a lot of time to learn what every move means. I think it's capable of variety of shapes, resonances that no other EQ plugin capable of, atleast for now. I tried tuning shitty sounding cymbals track and this plugin manage to make it sounds like a proper Turkish handmade one (lol) , keeping all the brilliance and removed all the harshness. It's better than Clariphonic at doing High Freq IMO. It'd be even better for those that work in 96k or higher I guess.

Would really love an option for Analyzer like the Pulsar Massive and TDR SlickEQ M especially when one control actually interact with each other in such a small increment like this.

Not sure what is the EQ Filter topology, but looks like it's similar to the Sontec (also Massive Passive) style where Boost and Cut are not symmetrical in amplitude. The mode can also be found in MAAT EQBlue - Parallel Passive LC, but that EQ doesn't have SOUL like this one where the EQ curve moving on its own a little. It's alive! lol

Also HW1 mode is probably Sontec because factory presets with "Sontec" name have it on HW1. I like HW2.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think Pulsar Massive is from a different company (Pulsar Audio).
But I agree, Massive is really great in the master chain.

This is a hot candidate for the most annoying handling I've ever come across.
Stepped Freq and Fine Hz??
Stepped Gain with virtual numbers 1 - 12 which are neither dB nor linear and Fine dB???
Not to speak of the crude shelf handling.
Are you fucking kidding me, Pulsar Modular?
I wouldn't use this POS even if it were for free.

Quite CPU hungry and I've no clue what the OS option is for since it doesn't produce any harmonics.

Single good news, it's running on WiN7 without problems here.

enable the O2, it produces tube-like (2nd heavy) harmonics, and the SOUL will amplify it. Even at the max O2 and SOUL setting, with OS, with 20Hz to 20kHz sine wave, all aliasing is below -100db. They done it right this time.

However, the Oversampling didn't fix the Bell Curve cramping at the Nyquist at the very high frequency selection on the High filter. (Center 3 band EQ section)

the stepped gain is at 0.5db increment but not precise, analog-style. lol

the combination of fixed + proportional Q is capable of wide array of Q. I think they made it that way because a lot of different Mastering EQs have different way of defining its Q value, but the plugin can do it all. While the main topology is Parallel Passive LC with proportional Q (I believe, not sure), you can still achieve the Constant Q style EQ curve (wide boost) with it. It could also capable of symmetrical cut of the FF-FB design for those that like to combine it that way. It's a bit tricky with no Analyzer though.

Ah, I already thought that I just missed it but I was so annoyed by the parameters that I haven't digged deeper. Thanks for letting us know.

Dude, this is a beta that isn't even supposed to be on this website. It's not officially released yet. It's going to be janky.

Dude, I'm aware of this but do you really think they will change these parameters for the official version? I don't, just like they continued to use two identical highshelves just with differently limited range for their P42, which is nonesense aswell.

dude use your ears maybe?

Is this even legit?

Seriously, even if it would sound good, why should I bother with such crude parameters? It's not the only EQ out there, right? Right. ;-)

The funny thing is that without oversampling engaged it still does not produce aliasing! Just a negligible harmonic at -100db.
And a very pleasing sound (even when pushed it is on the borderline).
I can see me using this on everything.

at normal, realistic setting, OS is not needed, there's an option to bypass the on top right corner. It nice that it is there because at extreme setting it is kinda needed.

Try a higher frequency test sine wave frequency, the aliasing started to pass the -100db threshold at 2kHz sine wave and getting worse the higher the sine wave test freq. That is O2 and SOUL at max setting!. Oversampling clear it all out though.
