Sampled at 192 kHz , model upsamples and runs at 192k Authentic Tape compression and saturation Great on almost any material and entire mixes
True Stereo 2 Track Imaging Incredible sound!

This A.I.-modeled plugin provides intuitive controls for adjusting the amount of saturation and compression combined, allowing you to dial in the perfect amount of warmth and character for your mix.

What does it do ?
With its cutting-edge technology, this plugin captures the essence of real tape, reproducing its softening of transients and pleasant-sounding saturation and compression.

Our Machine Learning algorithms have meticulously sampled and modeled every aspect of analog tape, from its frequency response to its unique distortion/compression characteristics.
The result is a plugin that delivers the warm, natural sound that is so highly sought after in today’s digital age.

Whether you’re working on a full-scale production or a small bedroom recording, the Machine Learning Sampled and Modeled Tape Machine plugin has got you covered.

It’s an essential tool for any producer, musician, or engineer looking to add that classic analog sound to their recordings.

We used a famous Vintage American 2 Track 1/4 inch Tape Machine with the SM9 Tape Formulation for modeling. We feature 2 unique Bias settings as well as fast (15ips) and slow (7.5 ips) tape speeds and also a unique 2-track mode. This mode recreates a true stereo 2-track image which brings in characteristics such as sonic differences between the 2 channels as well as crosstalk between the channels.

Try the Machine Learning Sampled and Modeled Tape Machine plugin today and elevate your productions to the next level!

Kiive and now Tone Empire.

Apparently its tape machine season somewhere.

Are those any good?

Kiive worth checking out. Sounds great to me. Recomend to really fiddle with all the controls, like low boost and bias which enhance the bass nicelly, stereo width etc. as there are some nice sweetspots to be found in my humble opinion.

I bought the 3 UAD tape plugin. I have enough plugin for tape machine stuff for now really.
Would love to use the Pulsar Massive Passive but it won't install on my machine for some reason. All Pulsar stuff for that matter. Its a shame because it seems better then the UAD one.

I tried both and none of them worked for me. Their harmonic response isn't spot on but if I had to choose one I'll choose TM700

Read (and seen) some reviews of Tone Empire's products - there are quite a few negative ones. Wonder if it's any good?

I've found most of Tone Empire's plug-ins to be quite meh, but some people love them though, so just try them out for yourself and see if you find them useful. They are very heavy on saturation/distortion in my experience, so nothing I would use on the mix bus or in mastering. Could be good for indivdual tracks and parallel sends.

Would you say that's true for both Reelight Pro and the TM-700?

Haven't had the chance to install and test TM-700 yet, but Reelight Pro was pretty heavy on the distortion compared to other tape machine emulations. One of the "models" were almost okay for regular use, but I can't remember which one. Half of them were quite frankly unusable though. Together with the fact that the oversampling was broken, made Reelight unusable for my purposes.

If TM-700 is similar to the last plug-in (LVL-01 or something) I'm expecting tons of distortion and crazy CPU usage. Will install and try it tomorrow.

Same. I used their Fairchild emu and it colored way too much, it was difficult to dial in something pleasing in my experience
I was drunk when I wrote this

In my own experience, they're shit.

I've tried them and didn't really like them, so I was just trying to see if I'm crazy or if they really are not good. Turns out, I wasn't wrong.

Forget the critics and the reviews and just judge it by yourself. You can tell he works hard on his emulations but they do need some more polishing but all in all there are far worse plugins out there and Tone Empire is quite alright in my book.

I like the IK Multimedia TEAC A-6100A for this week, it changes every week. The FX from the plugin can be a little too obvious sometimes, so it need some fine tuning, depends on the program material fed to it. The default settings is so good if you just want something super obvious. Add it to a bus, track suddenly sound like it went through a tape machine. Sometimes I only use the preamp section only.

Slate VTM can be very useful when you already satisfied with the mix and don't want to change anything and just adding it for the sake of, "shit i need to add a tape machine". It's a little too subtle, but sometimes that's what you want.

J37, Satin can be pushed to be excitingly "colored" sometimes, for me they are more for pads, sustained element where you want to use the Tape Machine as an FX wobble, flutter, distortion and whatnot, or rather delay to add some movement or what they call it "life". I really love that Space Echo presets on the Satin, try it out.

I think I've used Kramer Tape for atleast 200 mixes back in the days where it's the only good tape machine plugin I have. The plugin has a sweet spot. look for it. Eddie Kramer mentioned to someone (it's Michael Brauer) and he then shared it in a MWTM video. Can't remember which one, but I kinda know it by heart now.

Kiive Tape Face if you want that a little glue compression if the tracks need it. Can be useful on mastering/mixbus sometimes to put it after LP-EQ for some leveling and high-end roll-off. It's a known trick used by proper MEs to add tape emulation after some aggressive move on a digital LP-EQ. Overall, it sounds okay, the EQ curve a little obvious with the bias option, but I want more controls, more options.

I like the IK Multimedia tape plugins more for that reason, plus there are 10 of them, 1 will always work for the mix. At this point I already developed some sense of knowing which one will suit the mix after been using them for 1 to 2 years now.

Another one of my favourite is the Baby Audio TAIP. I made a lot of presets for my use and here is the 2 my most used presets. It's a like high roll-off with a little added presence to compensate and to be used on every track. It's not that subtle but you can hear its effect clearly when used on multiple tracks, turn on/off all. Careful when using on bass heavy material and use at 100% mix or else it will flanging. Sharing just for fun.

copy the presets to : C:\ProgramData\BABY Audio\presets\TAIP

After getting familiar with Toneboosters Reelbus and its capabilities, I have a really hard time finding anything close. Any tape machine feature, no matter how nuanced, is included in Reelbus with variable control.

yes Reelbus, that's definitely a good one. Forgot about it since I've not been using it that much. Must say the Tape Machine GUI is kinda needed to make things feel exciting sometimes and that's why developers keep making it.

this is the only developer that can make all their plugins started to sound like shit the moment he implemented that AI and Machine Learning into the coding. I think some of their older plugins are not that bad and pretty usable, but these new 3 AI plugins :

1. Neural Q 2 - EQ curve cramped near Nyquist. Wouldn't be that bad if the EQ is versatile whatever but the plugin can only do high and low boost and it sucks/failed at one of the only 2 things it can do. #facepalm Generic EQ Algo and added saturation stage after where nothing you do with the EQ affect the saturation or change its character. AI ?

2. LVL 1 - not sure why would anyone use this compressor or saturation AT ALL. Apart from all the limited controls it offers and that weird gain staging requirement where you have to push the track into it so hard or else no fx, it will not sound good how hard you try to gain stage it and adjust the speed, let alone sound in the ballpark of the famous STA-Level. Even if it does sound good to you, which is subjective, your CPU still hates it.

3. TM700 - let's just say it's just an EQ curve with high roll off and some low bump and tape saturation. (what else, all tape machine plugins are like that right ?) Turn that "2-Track" button on, you get that L/R difference like the TMT function in brainworx plugins. That's it but atleast it should sound good right ? It's not, it just sound like every other saturation plugins you don't use, why you want to use this one then ? Remember that old Massey Tape Head ? twice better sounding than this one. Compared to how u-He Satin does its thing, this feels like not a tape machine plugin at all.
It makes no sense to say you’re not good at it. It’s like saying, “I’m not good at being a monk.” You are either living as a monk or you’re not.

Thanks Stevie for the review. Appreciate your take on these plugins. I want to try TM-700 out and give it a go. I'll give my experience with it as well.

Too much negative comments before even giving the thing a proper testing time.
I don't think it's a bad tape at all.
Could find a lot of uses on individual tracks and some groups. It has a nice "texture" for lack of better words.
I don't bother with PD or aliasing. I put an effort on tuning my room and adopt best monitors position the space allow, then rely on what's coming out of the speakers to decide if i like the plugin or not
