Pulsar Modular P11 Abyss v1.0.7 WIN/MAC [MORiA] screenshot
AudioZ Exclusive
MORiA | February, 16 | AU | VST3 | AAX | 145 MB

P11 Abyss is a chameleon audio compressor that can go ultra clean competing against the cleanest of mastering compressors or super dirty to compete against the best of the color compressors.

Modern producers, engineers and artists should not be constrained by the need to understand different characteristics offered by the multitude of physical compressor topologies. They should not need to project and translate that information into selecting the right tool for the right purpose. One would choose VCA when seeking deep, aggressive punch; Opto for clean, open, smooth action; Vari Mu for flowing, rhythmic pulsing.

Abyss casts physically imposed rules and constraints completely aside, allowing it to masterfully exhibit any characteristic that is desired. Aggressive, punchy, smooth, open, breathy, dense, clean, dirty… it’s all here at your fingertips. Abyss fulfills the dream of having a direct connection with the audio without being mired in technicalities.

Dive in and experience the infinite colors, hues and characters Abyss beautifully draws out of your audio. It is very much designed to be equally at home on individual tracks and instruments, group buses, returns and main buses. It is designed to fulfill all mixing, stem and stereo mastering needs.

Features
Organic hardware-like feel & behavior.
Covers the sound of all compressor topologies.
Unique audio circuit designs: SOUL, PSI and O2.
Less than 1% cpu usage and zero sample latency!
All parameters are exposed to your DAW for automation.
Clipper routing and Brickwall limiter.
AU, AAX and VST3 formats. LV2 coming soon.

Changelog:
Version 1.0.7 Feb. 14, 2023
Metering Bug fix.
AAX for Windows authorized.
Phasing issue with OS Vintage mode using Class A transformer

--------------------------------------

"I went back to the drawing board to take the behavior of Abyss to the next level in nonlinearity. You should hear a more "expansive" sound than previous version but with the same punch and preserved initial transients of the raw audio (no M/S gimmicks, change of RMS or peak).
EQ section is now sweet sounding and Band attenuation (cut) implemented.
Don't be shocked when you cut a frequency (even in the low end) and end up with a punchy sound!!!"

Anything I add the P11 to, it always makes it sound worse. I think I'll skip this one.

Thanks, I just don't see what all the fuss is about this though, to be honest, just sounds like the volume is raised a few dB to me. Expensive as hell for just a slight volume boost.

It did not really convince me either. The price is ridiq.

Almost any parameter adjusted will raise the output, a shame, especially when using the saturation..

Did a quick comparison between this and Unisum and I must say I prefer the latter, which means I would prefer Amek's mastering comp as well, over this.

It's fine as a buss comp, I like it on the drum buss, but I wouldn't use it on my master bus, there are better alternatives.

I'm gonna dig in to see what I can get from this compressor. It offers too many features so I'm reading the manual now...

Thank you, MORiA

Thank you MORiA. I love the Pulsar Compressors. My favorite by far is Smasher! I frickin' love that compressor!
I don't believe we have it here for Mac.
But once again thank you for all you do to help keep this tiny little Mac boat afloat.

Pulsar audio is not the same company (smasher, Mu, Massive,1178...) . The company here is Pulsar modular (p42, abyss) . Not even close ;)

lel, they still didn't fix the Clipping/Limiter Oversampling.
It makes no sense to say you’re not good at it. It’s like saying, “I’m not good at being a monk.” You are either living as a monk or you’re not.

What's wrong with it? (genuinely curious)
  Resident 29.11.2020 29 2588

aliasing reaching -60db even at 1db of GR

Oh wow.

Do you know if the oversampling on P42 is problematic?

the OS on P42 works as it should. It's just saturation and doesn't have clipping function that is way more prone to aliasing compared to the saturation.

However, I'd suggest stay away from the VINTAGE OS mode for heavy saturation as there are still present aliasing around -75db. The INTEL mode is good enough while the HD put everything below -100db which is the safest bet. This is also true for to the P11.

Me personally I don't mind a little aliasing for saturation and I'd let the ear be the judge because sometimes it can make things sound better in context especially those hihat, crashes, cymbals.

I just don't like aliasing for hard clipping.

I really like this compressor, I think it sounds great, but I am not very fond of the saturation/clipping/limiting to be honest.

VST3 doesn't work on M1 Pro, though AU seems to be okay (just as previous version release)
