Sampleson MetaPiano v1.5.0-NeBULA screenshot
Team NeBULA | 12.12.2022 | 64MB | VST3/SAL
MetaPiano. A 60 Mb Modeled Grand Piano that sounds like a 30 Gb one.
MetaPiano is the first Spectral Modeled Grand Piano out there. It was built upon real sound captures from a Japanese Concert Grand Piano and meticulously rebuilt by math algorithms.
It's so realistic you won't believe is not the real instrument. And so lightweight you can email it :)

It looks like Pianoteq is getting some competition which is good news.

I suppose they are referring to the Yamaha C7?

I mean...if your competitor sounds like garbage (referring to metapiano), then Modartt have nothing to worry about.

I remember trying out a couple of Sampleson's products and there was only one impression they left on me: they sound like garbage. They are so bad that even Garageband's stock instruments sound better. They definitely aren't worth downloading, even if they weigh so little, but spending money on that? Don't do that FFS.

the piano actual sounds very nice for that size.
i dont know any small sized pianos, which sound decent.
If you want to supply something, you can. PM is open for that.

Yes I agree: Pianoteq might still be the Rolls Royce but this one isn't bad at all: Not worse than Arturia's IMHO.

The attack sounds a little too soft to me but it's not bad considering it doesn't use samples.

C'mon guys, this sounds totally decent for it's size.
It will work just fine in any mix and it's not made to compete with a 200gb steinway.
You won't use that in combination with vsl to bring a piano concerto to life, so...
I had an 8mb Bosendorfer patch on my Akai S2800, it was well made, nicely looped, some multisamples - it sat well in a mix, it wasn't meant to be 'that one concert grand'.

I would even dare to say that in a mix, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this vsti and a 200 GB library.

Of course, if the goal is to play some Rachmaninov on a 88 keys controler, the difference might be obvious for some people.

Listened to the Arabesque Meta Piano 1.5 sound clip on the Sampleson site and heard something funny. Turned up the volume and on every note there is a an audible hammer knock. Listen. It's very annoying, like someone tapping along with every note.
I miss the old days when you could just plug in and play.

The demos are badly recorded obviously: I couldn't hear anything similar on my setup.

"MetaPiano. A 60 Mb Modeled Grand Piano that sounds like a 30 Gb one"...if the piano was recorded in the most horrible of rooms with broken microphones by a deaf engineer. Other than that a fantastic offering.

Thank you TeamNeBULA for the effort.

It doesn't sound bad by any means. I think people in the comments are being harsh to it due to the misleading marketing.
Because It definitely doesn't sound like a 30Gb sampled library.

The worst thing about this piano is it's not "in space". If you close your eyes you can't imagine any real physical object producing this sound. Such sources cause a great problems while building a mix. So IMHO that's nothing more but 60 Mb of sound engineers P.I.T.A.

you know that is 100% synthesized. Space can always be added with reverb. So i dont see the point you are making.
If you want to supply something, you can. PM is open for that.

Each type of piano can be useful in a certain situation.

Just try this one playing repetitive, light arpeggios, now add psytrance / ambient / very reverberated / very looong pads / strings playing simple chords behind it...

Result: not bad. Not bad at all.
I'm alive!!! :D Isn't it astounding??? ;)

No need to fight: Pianissimo is much better than this,
better sound, lid/hammers can be adjusted, only twice the size.

If not, you've got EZKeys or Pianoteq

I've seen this debate over Sampleson's quality in a few places online, and as someone who isn't a fan of modeled pianos of any sort, I don't think this sounds bad at all. Coming from an admitted purest who strictly owns sampled "snob" pianos (as my friend calls them ) like realsamples, Imperfect samples, etc., the only modeled piano that sounds noticeably "better" is Modartt's ridiculous extravagant suite, and even then, "better" is still subjective as to what you need in your composition. Most modeled pianos just sound different from one another to me, not necessarily better or worse (though I do find it odd that people, and not just on AZ, put so much weight behind Arturia and EZKeys, neither of which I think sound like anything special.)
