You could use anything you could imagine, from gamepads, to mice, to keyboards (music or PC) - anything that alters values. There are converters for everything. I am unfamiliar with the Boss you mention, but if it is like any standard MIDI gear with MIDI out, you are well more than already set. Make sure your Focusrite has the MIDI part of its driver enabled in Device Manager so it shows up for DAW/plugin use.

You're welcome. By default, it is probably CC#4 (most likely) or CC#7 (less likely, but still) necessary to control, but even that probably won't matter as you can just use the learn feature of the DAW or plugin.

If in doubt or if in troubles, fire up MIDI-OX to see the values being sent (or not.)

That should work. I'm using a Yamaha FC7 pedal into a Yamaha CS1x then into IK's AXE I/O Solo MIDI input.
