Sononym is a sample browser that offers a fresh perspective on how sounds can be explored and organized. The software is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.



Features
Audio Analysis
Ask Sononym to analyze a folder, and all available information - tempo, pitch, amount of noise, harmonic content, etc. - is collected from your files and stored in a database. This ensures blazing fast access as you search, filter and sort your way through vast amounts of samples.

Similarity Search
Similarity search enables you to find similar-sounding samples in your sample collection. Basically, pick any sound as input and "see where it takes you" - finding variations has never been this easy. For more control, you can determine how much individual aspects (e.g. similarity across pitch or timbre) should matter.

Smart Categorization
While analyzing your samples, the software uses machine learning to categorize the content. The default set of categories in Sononym are broadly based around electronic music production and describe distinctive groups of sounds such as 'snare drums' or 'synth pads'. In addition, all sounds are classified as either looped or non-looped (one-shot) sounds.

Bookmarking & Exporting
Sononym combines bookmarking and exporting into a single workflow. You can freely organize, tag and rename your bookmarked files in projects, which are automatically exported to a folder of your choice. We believe that picking out sounds of interest and making them available elsewhere should be an effortless thing to do.

It disables/patches automatic online checks and applies a fake license file which you can edit to your favour as described in the included info file if you like.

Didn't test it for long time but as of now it works for me.

i'm currently testing this, samplism and ADSR sample manager. So far samplism and sononym are my top choices. ADSR Sample Manager is good but i don't like how the library/folder view is separate from the tag view. with the others, i can navigate folders and tags in the same view.

samplism tagging is top notch and samplism is able to add system-type libraries like ableton and apple loops.

sononyms category is definitely the best.

Just download it from sononym.net and apply the patch in the folder, then edit the license file.

Oh man. This release just made a mess, uninstalled and reinstalled and still a mess. any help? Installation fails, now its broken. gods speed m8s! Thank you for the effort.

Windows 11 user here... Just installed this on top of an old broken installation and this release fixed it! It somehow managed to register to my PC name?! better than previous V.R. release. Also installer interface is very easy to use, just hit typical install, done

But it does create a context menu item with NO OPTION TO ENABLE OR DISABLE.
In my opinion this is a major FUCKUP. This is not a simple oversight, but a decision made to insert an item in users' context menus with no permission or option.

If every program took the same liberty, the context menu would extend outside the bounds of the monitor screen.

To remove that annoying menu item one may use Easy Context Menu [great management tool] (under 'File-ContextMenu Cleaner'), or Nirsoft ShellMenuView (simple to enable/disable), or other tools.

It also creates a sononmy.db file (non-hidden) in any directory it has browsed.

Strange.... I don't have it in context menu. Can't remember exactly, but when bought it and first installed I think there was an option to uncheck.
