This time, thanks to artists fleeing rent hikes elsewhere in the city.

A hundred years ago the area called Rixdorf, was best known for dance halls and fistfights.

In an effort to burnish its image, officials renamed the place Neukoelln, but by the 1990s its reputation was so bad there was talk of going back to Rixdorf.

The last few years, though, have seen a wave of international creative types, leading, in turn, to new artist-run spaces and bar-slash-galleries; they’re popping up in derelict storefronts and corner pubs,as well as cafes, wine bars and the odd organic grocery.

Deephouse Berlin is located in the heart of Rixdorf. Inspired by its history and the wave of creativtiy.
