Plugin Extension For Nam and Genome | AudioZ Exclusive | 1.22 MB
We're still rolling with more of the new Series 3 profiles, next up is the infamous Emperical Labs FATSO profiles!

The Emperical Labs Fatso hardware processor was designed to reproduce the warm, ambient sounds produced by older valve processors and magnetic tape machines through harmonic and distortion generation, high frequency saturation (warmth), transformer and tape head emulation, and classic knee compression.

With its unique combination of tape emulation, compression, and harmonic generation, the FATSO enriches your recordings with character and dimension. Whether you're tracking, mixing, or mastering, experience the richness and presence that only the Emperical Labs FATSO can deliver.

We sampled 5 of the most used hardware settings to give you profiles that will work right across your productions, giving you that elusive analog compression and saturation right in your DAW. There's plenty of the Fatso spank to be had in these profiles, but due to the dynamic nature of the sampling feel free to dial it back if you need a more subtle approach, but we guarantee you'll soon be cranking the gain up again to get you firmly back into spanky territory that the Fatso is renowned for.

Other Fatso emulations have come and gone, and most of those digital recreations lay resting in the audio plugin graveyard on many hard drives across the world, but were about to resurrect faith in true analog plugins with the AnalogXAi sampled Fatso profiles! We promise that you'll look at software based compression in a new light after trying our Series 3 Tech.

It's like 4 cart wheel vs a Ferrari.

Amazing sound. And a big big Thank you!

Can someone please explain a bit more how this works? I use NAM with BlueCats Patchwork and what I have noticed is, that the sound "breaks" depending on the input gain. So, how are the profiles calibrated? Should you feed them with ≈ 18 dBFS?
I am still not sure if the sound they make is the way they should sound anyway.

Use the Neural Amp Modeler app..It's free on GitHub

Load the profiles into NAM, and turn everything off. Except for the input and Output. And the fun begins!

Well, thanks, but I'm already passed this point. Since you can't see GR meter, I wonder how you should manage the GR with input gain.

Use -18db as a starting point before going into the plugin but from my expirence different profiles were caputured with different input gain so it takes time to figure out the sweetspot in every profile. Once you find a sweetspot and gain match with bypass it' s good to make a presets in your daw so you can quick check them working.
  Member 28.11.2015 259

Already did that. But how do yo manage the GR? Just with the input gain?

My way is using VU meter plugin for turning down the signal somewhere about -18db before the NAM pliugin ( i use Genome). Then I increase or decrease the input in the plugin to find the sweetspot. In the same time I compensate the volume with the output knob by ear bypassing the plugin on/off and looking for the peaks are about the same level in/out.

Yes, you menage everything with NAMs Input knob. It's alpha and omega of the plugin. Many hardware compressors don't have separate threshold knob, same is here. You should disable anything else other than Output knob to compensate for volume boosts. If you feel the need for more gain reduction, drive Input knob until you find appropriate gain reduction level, but in that case -18db could be to low, so its usually better for compressors profiles to normalize peaking at -6db. Set NAMs Output knob to at the same -6db level as original file. Any loudness gain is created by all of the NAMs profiles glorious harmonic content. So NAM will sound also lot louder than original unprocessed file, even when they both peaking at -6db. Start to drive Input knob up from there. Go up, and back it down to desired reduction. If you go way beyond realms of what profile hes learned about actual hardware, profile can start to sound unrealistic. But this profiles take high volumes pretty good, and show to be quite resilient to high Input levels.

set up a macro. with input and output of nam mapped. make the output inverse of the input, so that when you push the knob, it feeds into the profile, but the volume is automatically compensated. As far as measuring GR, you can use a meter, or just use your ears, if it sounds good, it is good

I have couple of analogX profiles. How could I upload them on audioz?

Unfortunately, this is the ONLY NAM profile that's been recorded at 44.1 instead of 48kHz.
Isn't this a problem with NAM? I've read that NAM does not have the ability to resample effectively which causes sound quality issues.

NAM should be able to resample the incoming audio to the sample rate that is expected by the model.

theres no problem. it sounds fine.

Hmm NAM is mono only which makes these fairly useless. Anybody checked if stereo WAVs are included?
  Member 23.02.2016 1 242

There is now a new NAM plugin called "NAM Universal" that can operate in stereo.
  Member 27.01.2022 3 211

I have it but NAM profiles like these are mono. They'd have 2 provide stereo WAVs for this 2 b useful

Nam Universal is great really like it I was dabbling about Genome but just to load profiles a bit expensive. +1 for the tip it seems it was released this month.

set it up in dual mono using blue cat and save the whole thing as a preset .

lol so ur suggesting i load mono compressor/saturater IRs into a mono guitar amp sim then repeat that again in a plugin wrapper to recreate the sound & behaviour of a stereo compressor/saturater? that sounds like utter madness. & hey, let's not worry about the phase issues huh?
  Member 21.09.2023 2 818
+480
yes, that's exactly what im suggesting. Setup patchwork in dual mono. There are no phase issues, if you want each side to behave like a stereo compressor, offset the input on each side by .2db or something. Its really not that complicated

nice 2 see ur enthusiasm cuteglitch but I don't want these things enough 2 do th@.
  Member 21.09.2023 2 818

fair enough! they do sound really good, but can be a hassle to set up initially. They have a dedicated plugin coming out soon, may be an easier workflow
  Member 29.05.2024 9

These are not mono.
