If you had to choose between acustica plugins or nebula 4 and Tim p stuff which would yall choose?

its hard to choose. they all have their own unique qualities, strengths and weaknesses. worth having them all . Tim P's compressors usually beat out most of the acustica aqcua stuff tho.

Nebula for compressor.
Idk.
I always find acustica compressor acting / sounds weird

Neither, they're both snake oil. Stick with algo at 96k

Nebula is nothing like snake oil you cant be more wrong i bet you havent even tried it.
At first Nebula had a very ugly interface and was very difficult to use and had a very steep learning curve
But it has amazing SOUNDS if you use a third party developer like TIM here or Alex-B or Olonga etc they had access to tons of old and new studio gear they could sample.

Snake oil is algo plugins with nice shining GUI probably not even coded after the schematic either so it's not even clkose to sound like the real deal
I guess most people think if i use them at 96 it will make them sound more real L.O.L
But then again its always people with no ear that has that opinion and they probably dont play any instrument either.

Eventually AA decided to go for that route i am a litrtle suspicios as i cant5 imagine the dev has all those gear he say he samples as now no third party developer is involved anymore.

Sampling beats algo every day but good algo canm sound clos but LOTS of dev dont bother to code that deep they rather spend time to develope a shiny GUI instead and of course hard copy protection

I woudn't say Nebula is snake oil.
I have a Revox B77 and when listening to music I used to feed it through and listened in read-after-write from the play-head. Because I liked the sound so much.
I tried a lot of algorithmic tape sims and none was even close.
Some day I found Nebula 3 up here and thought 'well another convolution thingy, gonna give it a go for reverbs'. Downloaded it and downloaded some reverb impulses and some tape impulses.
Thinking 'tape can't work in a convolution machine' but tried a captured B77.
I was blown away. Keep in mind, I was not thinking 'this is gonna be cool' - the opposite.
So no placebo to be expected.
For the last ten years Spotify is fed through nebula 3 with that caputered B77 in my living room and I'm more than happy about that setup.

Sound wise for me Nebula always wins whenever I A/B against any other Plugins Acustica included but the difference against Nebula and Acustica sound wise isn't huge .

But If i had to choose which one i would use forever its probably Acustica just because they have a lot more versatility in their plugin range. But in the real world i use both i use Acustica or Algo plugins where i can't use Nebula basically. But there's some Acustica plugins i like to use over the nebula Counterparts because they give you just way more options and versatility GOLD 5 is an amazing example its like an all in one Neve with different Neve Emulations and it covers all your Neve needs. There isn't really an all in plugin like that in the Nebula World that gives you everything in one.

Nothing missing I can see, works great. I finally remembered how to do the setups again, got it and the pre registered as VST3 plugs and then set them up together in Cakewalk effects chain presets. Now all I have to do is load my preset and Cakewalk launches the comp and pre perfectly and I can use the same skin to use all functions, limiter, comp, auto release, and frequency dependent, just beautiful and works great.

What I find works really well with these Nebula plugins is to do the setups on each parameter, and to create all of the VST3 plugins - then to drop each of them in the suggested order as described on the dev's site into the slots of the Parallel Chain area in Blue Cat's Patchwork. I then save that combination as a Blue Cat preset. That way I just drop Patchwork where I need it and change the preset to whichever Nebula combined plugin I need. There's a button in Patchwork that allows you to open everything up at once. I usually stack them nice so it opens like a rack. I can use the Patchwork bypass buttons on the slots to enable or disable each section, for instance in case I don't want something like the Pre section or the filters. It really cleans up the experience of using Nebula plugins. It's a bit of upfront work, but I've created a project in Reaper that's just a little mini-lab for building these Nebula plugin modules for use in other projects. It takes some patience but it's worthwhile for the sound that you get in the end.

I had the same problem If I remember correctly.. it was because of Aqurius I think then I deleted anything to do with Nebula related from Aqurius then Everything worked the only time I get this error now or something similar is when I use an Azzimov skin for example then I get the error because the library for the skin is not updated or vice versa. Usually the setups provided work.

and btw that Blue Cat idea is great I think I will implement it into my workflow

PS. TimP Dual Tech is great example of this the one available is the outdated library and the skin from Azzimov is for the updated library. So natrually when creating the setup yyou get the error

Actually, if you have Reaper I found something else that works even better. In one of the FX insert slots just right click and Add Container. It creates a sub-slot, and you can add all of the different bandwidths of a given EQ Program in there, the filters, the pre-amps, or the different ratios on a compressor. You can enable or disable each one to taste or requirement, or you can disable or enable the whole plugin stack. That makes it easy for A/Bing. I can save the container as a chain and use it in other projects. I'm really finding that making these setups more GUI friendly and usable has opened the Nebula world up for me. Totally worth the extra effort.

On the old libraries new versions thing, I've noticed other problems. The new Azzimov skins don't always work, or sometimes the Nebula 3 skins (all that's available) don't fit on Nebula 4 . For instance on the Vari-Level skin the GR meter doesn't work. That one I just have to use my ear for the gain reduction, or swap it out with a skin that comes close and has the same items on the faceplate. I think I used either the Opto or the 100 and got it to work. But I ended up going back the Vari-Level skin without the meter. I might just end up buying that one. With the Alex B skins I've swapped other skins too. I used the Azzimov Modern Flagship EQ skin on the AlexB MMEQ and it worked. I think the Q and the Gain were reversed but it was easy to figure out, and overall it looks much better that big blue Alex B skin. Anyway I'm really loving the sound from these. I've already bought some legit ones.

Woah that might be a great idea! I just always loaded them up instance by instance

Btw about the GR meter yes a lot of comp libraries has this problem where you have to drive the gain reduction a bit more then you usually would just to get the meter to start moving then I just back off then the meter works with minimal reduction with in combination with my ears also of course. I found in most cases it works like that or the meter is totally off then I just use my ears but this not a problem for me as the sound is totally worth it! Also great idea about changing the faceplate I like the look of the GIU's so im hard pressed to change

OH and if you are any interested in TimP Dual Tech you just have to make the PRE setups manually then it works fine!

Are you in Windows?
from scratch
Copy the fikes from this archive to the Nebulatemp directory. Make sure you open the skins folder because there are Neb3 skins and neb 4 skins folders. Open Neb 4 skins folder and copy all the files in it to your nebularepository/skins folder. Now do the same for the setups and properties folders, copy contents over to the same folders in the repositiry folder. Do the same with the extra skins in this archive zip and overwrite the ones you already copied over in case there are any differences, 20 files should be needed to be overwritten. Now that your setups, properties and files are all copied over to the same folders, continue on.

Load Nebula 4 or 3 ( I use 4) vst3. You will see the empty plug. Just hit the setips button up top and you will see compex setups in there. They are labelld ADRcompex or some such. You will see one setup for the compressor, and 4 preamp setups for the different rates, 44, 4, 88, and 6.
Highlight the compressor setup, then up top, hit the open setup button, it will open the setup and you will see the files listed in the main window, and the top one will have a mark next to it for it to load as default preset. Now, you need to go up top and tell the setup what skin to use. Open the skin and scroll down until you see the Compex skin, there will be one for the comp and one for the pres.
Choose the one for the comp and it will now show as the skin that will be loaded. for that setup or vst3). Now put a check mark in the VST3 (or VST2) box, now hit save and it will create a VST3 in your common files/vst3 folder. Now do all these steps over again to make a preamp setup vsts. Same process.

Now, open your daw again or ust do a vst scan and your new vst3 plugs will be in your acustica plugin folder. Load up the comp first and it will open totally ready, skin and alll. Then load the preap vst3 you created too and the pre always goes last after the comp. Now both are open, just save these two as an effects rack preset in your daw. Cakewalk lets you save effects setups and now all you have to do is load that one setup and it will load both the comp and preamp and everything works great. You NOW HAVE THE BEST Distressor plug ever made. Probably best to bounce it in place once you get it on a few tracks. I like to load one for say, bass, guitars, and drums and get them sounding right and just bounce them in place and more ove on. Hope that helps.

Don\t know why I had the Distressor on my mind in my post above, but this is the ADR compressor on a Helios board. Still a VCA comp and I had been thinking about how awesome a Nebula Distressor would be if TimP made one. I also want his N60A DBX comp. Can't wait to try that and his BlueMU.

ADR Compex is a FET style comp not VCA
