According to the demo song, I'm not sure that Omnisphere is needed to produce that kind of sounds. A bit overkill.

R&B? Is it me or does it seems that after the 90s, folks started referring to low powered Hip Hop as RnB. It's actually a shame. This new generation has no clue as to how different RnB is to Hip Hop. I know the New Jack swing blurred the lines a good bit, but now, a trap song and an rnb joint are pretty much indistinguishable. That's why I tend to focus my RnB sights on the 90s and the sounds and techniques they used then. You can give me the best of today's "RnB" and it doesn't come close to the worst of that of the 90s. I call this stuff Trap Soul.

I absolutely agree with you, 100%. So to answer your question; no - it's not just you. The way I see it, the current 'millenial' generation probably sense more affinity with 90's R&B 'sounding' closer to Trap than say 90's Hip Hop. If you asked them to choose between say Mary J Blige or NWA, I wouldn't be surprised if they went for MJB simply because of the groove / feel factor. But you're absolutely right, this kind of "21st C R&B" should be clearly labelled as Trap Soul, or even "R&T" (Rhythm & Trap). It's only loosely related to what really was R&B in the 20th C.

Yes, it's not just you. RnB initially means Rhythm and Blues ... All this have nothing to do with it.
But hey, if the Queen of Ham (I mean Beyonce), can be called the queen of Soul , anything can be called name. No?
