Plughugger EMP3 For Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2 screenshot
FANTASTiC | 18 July 2018 | 52 MB
EMP-3 is basically a normal soundset - but with one major difference. Instead of basing it on traditional synth waveforms - we took all those analog waveforms and processed them hard with the lowest quality MP3 setting we could find. Then we recorded the result back into Omnisphere in 96kHz and started to build the sounds from there.

organic digital lofi
hard encoded waveforms
processed with analog warmth

Although we made this soundset with modern digital lofi in mind - by some strange paradox the waveforms have a very interesting analog-like instability to them. Although it’s the worst of digital encoding artefacts - when turned into sounds the digital artefacts brings out a unique almost organic quality.

We also provided the basic waveforms AND the Omnisphere Patches in two different compression levels: 8 and 16 kilobits per second. 8 kbps is a more lofi and rough while 16 kbps is a bit less dirty - it sounds like it’s a step closer to the original sound without compression. On some sounds the difference is barely noticeable - and on some it's quite radical. Please see the two collections of waveforms as a bonus and source material for your own sound design.

Apart from the single sounds we also included 50 multi sounds where we have created everything from complex layered sounds to small loops complete with drums and sequenced instruments.

EMP-3 contains basic 149 single sounds in the following categories (actually the double amount of sounds since they come in two compression rates).

•22 Arpeggios and Sequences
•21 Drum and percussion
•26 Pad and Strings
•19 Bass sounds
•35 Synth sounds
•26 Textures and Soundscapes
•50 Multi sounds

Plus 176 INIT sounds based on each sampled sound source and compression rate.

Yup it does sound pretty bad to me also, and nothing that a little mangeling wouldn't accomplish if one wanted to make things sound this way...which I personally wouldn't do.
Music is always a commentary on society.

My understanding, it gives a good material for tweaking and sound design rather than 'ready to go' presets. So it's good for those who dive deeply.. thank you for share

I agree... it's a fresh take on something old!! It's "RETRO"!!!!!! (Almost sounds analog...). Oh! And that's "sound design" at it's most fundamental...

surprised to see the negative opinions. these are unique and useful sounds that can be used in many different genres.

personally i think its good OMNI sound-set judging on that YT video
i liked those bass sound and pad sounds sample
the sample is there but all you have to do is tweak and turn few knobs
and mold shape the sounds and insert them in to own projects
and im doing exactly that on of of my current projects that fits
new-age /chill-out/ambient genre

thank you fantastic
living in the 80s is good thing

All right, people, I did not test those sounds, I just listened to the trailer, but if you all like this library, I'll load and test, and have a look! see you later :-)

I always joke with friends on how future kids will be nostalgic of the mp3 sounds the same way some from my generation are nostalgic of the vinyl and analog sound. Look like a first step in this direction :)

Interesting sound anyway, thanks for sharing :)

This is pretty interesting soundset, boldly goes where no producer has gone before.
