The CineStrings CORE Library is Cinesamples’ orchestral string sample library for Kontakt. Recorded at the world famous SONY Pictures Scoring Stage in Los Angeles, and mixed by veteran legend Dennis Sands (Spiderman, Argo, Avengers, Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, and 250+ more). The CineStrings CORE Library covers the essentials of the orchestral string section, and functions as a foundation in any scoring pallette

CineStrings is revolutionary in its power and simplicity for recreating the sound of the orchestral string section. The library was designed by composers, for composers, with direct feedback from the film music community during its development. The result is a string library that is easy to use, composer-friendly, with unparalleled recording quality. CineStrings library does not require you to purchase any additional sample playback software, and is licensed to work with the Native Instrument’s free Kontakt Player. All you need is a sequencer like Logic, Cubase, Digital Performer, LIVE, Protools, Cakewalk, or even Apple GarageBand and you’ll be up and running. You can also use CineStrings with your favorite notation software such as Sibelius or Finale.

CineStrings CORE offers many amazing features that distinguishes it from other libraries.

Our newest feature is the “Hairpin Creator”. This amazing setting allows for you to automatically get very natural “swells” without having to program a series of controller changes. Based on time or synced to your DAW, the strings can crescendo and decrescendo as you play, including linking a non-vib to espressivo state – this allows for amazing and expressive playing without having to touch any other controller!

Kontakt Player 5.3 or higher

this lib make a new step to the real thing, but this is not yet the real thing.

The real thing cannot be imitated to the point where someone with a trained ear can be completely fooled. Of course, to the general public even 1990 samples were believable enough, especially in the US, where classical music literacy is the lowest in the industrialized world.

Why do you think film composers still spend millions of $$$ every year hiring symphony orchestras in eastern Europe? It's pretty much what separates the A-list from those working for a few thousand bucks, scoring for cable TV programs...

12GB Minimun RAM?
32GB Recommended RAM?
Wow...
I envy you, guys.

From their website, in the requirements section:
8GB free required to load ALL patches on Full Mix

Meaning if you use only one or two patches, it might be down to 1-2 GB. However, using only one or two patches is kinda limiting, unless you're fine with those limitations or can work around them using track freezing.

But, who am I to judge?

But with 8GB...you get only full strings. Very limited orchestra
So 16GB is the minimum requirement to me.

With 8GB RAM, i advice Cinematic Strings 2 or Adagietto (i use them).
And you will have room for things like brass, woodwinds, percs...

How does Spitfire Sable Series compare to this?
  Resident 25.04.2012 74 7705

My preference would be the Sable line.

Apples and oranges.

Cinestrings = full orchestra string section (10+10+8+10+6)
Sable = chamber strings (4+4+4+4+2)

spitfire has also mural

Yeah, and that would be comparable. Not Sable.

I think he was referring to the quality and authenticity not whether it's for solo or section work.

This has that "big sound", epic feel to it. Spitfire is more on the softer side of things. (and Mural would be a better comparison)

I like to layer.... some of the broad libs like Symphobia or Mural as a wash with Sable for the detail. I've said it before... you can't have too many colors in the palate. They're all handy.

Am I the only one who finds the scripting buggy?

First of all, it took forever to load a patch initially (getting a message stating "working on sample data cache." Never seen that before with any other library.)

Switching articulations via foot pedal is where the trouble starts. It's glitchy: sometimes it's too slow to change and sometimes it "eats" polyphony without any apparent reason (i.e. even if you're only playing 4-part chords.) These issues seem to be more dramatic on the "full ensemble" patches.

Also found some inconsistencies with the dynamics (notes that suddenly play louder at random etc.) and problems with the mixer (sometimes only the close mic is loaded. Or one mic is selected by default but it doesn't automatically load the samples.)

Lastly, some samples are definitely out of tune.

I guess it will all be fixed with 1.1...

Yes I've found some bugs too,
That's why we need to try before we buy, as for 500$ this lib should be absolutely perfect.

This is one thing I don't like about Cinesamples, the switching of articulations, I don't find it very intuitive. Normal keyswitch is still much better. I even prefer separate patches for articulations.
