Under the hood
Boasting simplicity, KARRIEM RIGGINS DRUMS tucks a kaleidoscope of percussion into a vivid interface – beautifully designed by artist Jason Jägel. Captured with care at the iconic Studio 3 at Sunset Sound, the sounds are treated with equal creativity, having been processed through modular units, tape machines, spring reverbs, and mixed up with some of Karriem’s own secret sauce. The result? Standout sounds that encourage experimentation and are everything but mechanical.

Behind the sleeves
A multi-faceted jazz drummer and hip hop producer, Karriem has worked alongside the likes of J Dilla, Common, Madlib, Erykah Badu, Slum Village, Talib Kweli, The Roots, and many more. We sat down with the producer to dive into some of his favorite works, from iconic records that shaped hip hop, to trailblazing chart-toppers and his very own debut album.

I rip my own breaks, so Kontakt just isn't how I do my drums, I don't suppose theres an EZ way to extract the wavs to see if it can be used for my workflow?

You can extract the WAV files with a Total Commander plugin and conNCW. It's relatively easy. However, the perks of using this in Kontakt is the round robins, multiple dynamic layers and mics which humanize and give depth to the drums (which can be either desirable or not) and it's ready to go with presets, FXs and intuitive layout. Anyway, I have extracted the WAV files myself because I too wanted the dry samples. PM me if you're interested.

Yessir! Karriem is of the few who actually gets it and knows what's up. He ain't stiff, unlike 99% of lo-fi and hiphop producers who pretend to sound like Dilla. This guy can absolutely make you think you're listening to Dilla.

Heads Up, Mac Users
Use the Add Library Command after you change (shorten) the Folder name to:
"Native Instruments Karriem Riggins Drums"
And it will work in 7.18 +

I've done that but shows up as "Library not found Click manage libraries etc"

Never had this issue before

Windows Users, Hope this helps:
In order to register the Library with Kontakt 7.1.8 , use the OLD Library Adder Tool (the one that came with Kontakt 5.6.8 and up! )
DO NOT scan your entire shared Folder but only the "Karriem Riggins Drums Library"- Folder.
When you execute it ,it should read "1 Library successfully registered" and should then work accordingly in Kontakt 7.1.8.

This worked for me (also be sure to execute everything as Administrator).

Cheers

does anyone know how to swap the library to an external SSD? I saw a tip here on the HP that you should just copy the sample folder over. This works so far, I just have to manually specify the destination of the samples every time I want to call the library in Kontakt. Is that somehow automatic?
