Austin, Texas is an odd place. So odd in fact, that β€œKeep Austin Wierd” is virtually the officially recognized slogan of the city itself. The place is packed full of artists and art, musicians and the instruments behind them. In fact, there’s a shop on 6th St, at the heart of downtown Austin, where you can buy a guitar-shaped toilet seat, complete with sunburst finish. Among the strange are many really interesting and creative people, each exploring and giving back in their own way. Sometimes a guy just wants to build a towering castle of steel, plastic, glass and all manner of other glorious scraps that modern progress and consumption has wrought in his own backyard for over 20 years. And sometimes a guy has to fight for the right to keep what he’s built when the powers that be come along and tell him to tear it all down. Meet Vince Hannemann, the β€œJunk King”, and welcome to his amazing Cathedral of Junk.

We met up with a few local friends for a little field trip and picked, pulled and prodded the structure to find a few dozen unique objects and surfaces to bash some cool sounds out of with drumsticks. This library includes playable multisample instruments of the coolest and most musical oddities we found, edited and programmed with precision for maximum playability and musicality. It covers everything from old cymbals and refrigerators to saw blades and artificial legs, but tried to focus on tonal instruments to provide a broad new palette of expressive tuned percussion. The end result is a grand scrap orchestra, and a fitting tribute to the The Junk King’s Cathedral of Junk.
This library was originally published in 2011 by Tonehammer.

reminds me of an article I read a long time ago and using google just found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gates_of_Delirium

A loud crashing sound heard in the middle of the song is caused by a set of old automobile parts mounted on a rack being pushed over. The band decided to keep it in instead of doing another take. Alan White explains in the liner notes of the 2003 remaster of the album.

"The percussion on that song is pretty unusual," he says. "Jon and I used to travel together to Chris' home studio, where we recorded the album. We would stop at a junkyard along the way and pick up parts of cars. We'd just go there and bang on things. There were springs and pieces of metal, brake, and clutch plates. We'd buy them and bring them back to the studio. We built a rack and hung all these things off it, and we'd bang on them. During the recording I pushed the whole thing over. That crash is what you hear on the album."

The song is here I have to hope this library will make it possible for me to somehow recreate this masterpiece of atonal rock that I still remember listening to this as a teenager and having my mind blown by the fact that there were musicians on this planet that could write music as otherworldly and yet orchestral with a sense of the majestic and do it with mostly rock instrumentation and of course the synths of that day. Moraz, Howe, White, Anderson and Squire was not the most celebrated lineup of Yes but they were one of my favorites. My attempt will be aimed at pulling off redoing mostly the keys and guitars including basses. Hopefully I will find a drummer to collaborate with on the rest and we can arrange for an accident so some singer accidentally loses his nuts so we can make him sound like Jon.

Listening to the demos now and then I will listen to the Gates just to compare the types of sounds and hopefully there is enough of a match to justify this download. I am hearing it so far. Lots of Yes inspired beats in the demos reminding me of the the song they did called the Ancient off the Tales from Topographic Oceans album which is probably most famous for the fact it was a double album that had 4 songs and each lasted the entire side of a record. What record label would do that these days?

I actually saw them perform "The Gates of Delerium" live in 1976. It was a life altering performance as they put on to this day the single greatest musical performance of live music I have ever witnessed. In part of the song there is a quiet section and during the concert I noticed everyone in the audience was just going OOOOH and AAAAAHHHtripping very hard like they were all having an instant orgasm because of the music all at the exact same time. That made me want to become a musician at that moment in time.

Of course that was about the last time they (the PTB who rule over such things) ever let a laser show hit the audience and it was perhaps the most magnificent laser show I have ever ever seen. The only other time that happened was the RA tour for Utopia which oddly enough that LP was produced by Eddie something or other the producer for guess it.

IF you said yes give yourself an attaboy.
