It's a larger and better version in the same genre, but it's not marketed as a replacement. There's a little overlap, but these are basically different kits and entirely new samples. Mixwave is still selling the original version.

Both versions are for sale, the first one is just a little cheaper. It doesn't sound like a replacement, if you listen to the demos, they sound different, and they are different kits. I don't know if they could sound very similar, enough to be a replacement for the first version. Listen to them on their website, the audio-only demos, not the videos.

Ah, now I understand. I thought there was only one way to get this. When I unpacked it I was a little surprised because the website says "about 28 GB for Kontakt Instrument and 5 GB for TCI Files" for the size.

Thanks for this. When I installed it, my install of the first version got messed up and I had to run the kontakt tools again to get it working again. I saw they even have the same name which made it more confusing. Is there some particular way to install this more effectively? They were even on separate drives

Try the latest vkDanilov Portable Kontakt (8.1). Add the library with the library manager and that's it.

Kontakt 8 (R2R) is telling me that this library isn't installed, even though the Team R2R Kontakt Manager registers it.
Is it possible to install the vkDanilov Kontakt 8.1 Portable on the same system as the R2R version, or does it need to be on a USB stick?
I usually delete the .rar files once I've installed a library, due to the storage requirements, but this time I'll probably need to Dl this again but bandwidth is getting a bit tight right now.

I've never had R2R and vkDanolov Kontakt on my computer at the same time but Portable Kontakt doesn't actually need to be installed, just unpacked. So you can theoretically try the standalone version anyway. However, the vst3 plugin would be installed in the same place (I assume) where R2R is, which could be problematic.

I would suggest that if you mainly use Kontakt to access such libraries, switch exclusively to the Portable version.

From a previous vkDanilov Portable Kontakt info (I wrote "X" for the version number):

How to install:
1. Create an empty folder. (My note: It doesn't have to be on drive C!) The name of the folder itself and the path to it MUST NOT CONTAIN CYRILLIC. The folder MUST BE WRITTEN
2. Run the installer KontaktPortable_vX.XX.exe
3. Press the Browse... button and select the created empty folder
4. Press the Extract button

How to update:
1. Run the installer KontaktPortable_vX.XX.exe
2. Press the Browse... button and select the folder where the Kontakt X.XX PORTABLE files are located
3. Press the Extract button
4. When the Confirm file replace window appears, confirm the replacement of files (Press Yes to All)

How to add Kontakt PORTABLE VST3 to a host (DAW):

Method 1:
Open your host settings and add the KontaktXPortable\KontaktX\x64\VST3\ folder as an additional plugin scan folder. Please refer to your DAW manual for details.
This method is suitable for hosts that do not limit themselves to scanning VST3 plugins only in the standard location (Cockos REAPER, Magix Samplitude,...)

Method 2 (I recommend this.):
Run KontaktXPortable\Install.exe
On the component selection page, select: created a link to the VST3 plugin Kontakt PORTABLE in the standard VST3 plugin scan folder)
