Which would you prefer, a Brut flute or a Mega Pint ?

The Clavichord is from the Late Middle Ages. It's not a Clavinet.

Does an excellent flute seem like a CORE thing to have?
Like an 808 is for drums, but for orchestral winds.

The best I can find so far is Orange tree Passion Flute,
and the Amadeus Orchestra Flute.

Neither of which are quite perfect.
Still searching for perfection.

Amadeus has no legato for any instruments, it's just an all-in-one sketch tool and a very good one at that. Very good value. All instruments very usable and a great overall character of the library.
But hardly "the best" for anything, let alone flute !
You will usually need a dedicated flute/violin/cello etc library which includes legato, unless you never plan on having any one instrument upfront or solo !
OTS Passion Flute (with it's syncable loops + instrument, and scat singing and over-blown articulations) is for jazz, funk, and soul, hence :

Which you will never find in one library alone, I'll tell you now newb brother ! You know that nothing in this dimension can ever be "perfect" ? This is after nearly two decades of using Kontakt and buying and collecting libraries. I do delete libraries when they are far surpassed by other alternatives, but I still have around 800 core libraries as my main pallette. Nothing compared to some !
(However, in this case, one could actually suffice with just Passion Flute for certain styles of tracks of certain genres, totally.)

You find them in the woodwind section of an orchestra, so...
If you want to have a full orchestra, yes !

Also maybe you can try 8Dio Claire Flute Virtuoso, orchestral. Good.

As this is bass flute, you know there are Soprano and Piccolo flutes too...?
Most of the time people just think of flute as the soprano model.
