Relatively few patterns have been extensively exploited, through lots of live bars of playing with all the natural variation that entails. Recorded to digital multitrack with excellent engineering, crosstalk between instruments is negligible, which means that a 'solo' track can be sampled clean. Playing is excellent throughout, recording quality is pristine, and a good selection of single hits at various dynamics is presented at the end for the serious samplist who is into velocity-switching and other such activities.

Some with Roland's RSS 3-D processing. This should stand up as a shining example to anyone thinking of producing a sample CD. From the first track you realise this is something special and more than useable - inspiring. You get eight grooves ranging from 80 bpm to 120 bpm, each lasting between 30 seconds and three minutes. Each groove is then split into its component parts giving access to individual rhythm blocks. The sound quality is superb, as is the playing. You also get a big pile of single hits and fills to complement the performances. As with the also excellent 'Dave Ruffy's Drums', some of these hits seem to lack the balls produced in the performance. All bpms are given and indexing is clear and simple. A classic.
