Walkthrough:
Liikkuva (prounounced “Lee Koo Vah”) is a string textures sample library based on the sound of modern “Scandi” or “Nordic” soundtracks such as The Killing, Wallander and Bordertown.
It contains a range of articulations split into “High Strings” and “Low Strings” that all have a sense of movement and evolution.
These string textures reflect the landscape of Scandinavian countries – cold, bleak and empty yet are perfect for use in both cold, dreary underscore as well as more warm and shimmering tracks.

Organic, Raw and Silky Strings with No Violas for the Scandi Sound
To create the “Scandi” sound, we recorded a small string orchestra with no violas to scoop out the mid-range and give them their silky sound with a boomy bottom and airy top.
The strings are soft and delicate with a silky airiness and distinctly raw, icy tone to them. They have a definite up close sound allowing many intricate details to shine through.
From nose diving “Sirens” to more minimalist, melancholic textures like “Sul Tasto“, we’ve recorded a range of textured string techniques in both high and low strings to give you a nuanced, moving sound full of detail and ambience.
This library lends itself perfectly to modern drama that requires an intimate and organic sound full of movement and life. It can bring you to both warm, shimmering lakes as well as dark, cold, sharp glaciers.

Recorded in a Stunning Croatian Church
The players for LIIKKUVA were recorded in a beautiful church in Zagreb, Croatia with an assortment of Rode ribbon and AKG/Neumann condensers .
Three microphone positions were used – Close, Mid & Far – to give plenty of sonic options, allowing you to create your own mix and diall in the dry, upclose sound or a more shimmering distant mix from the far mics.

Molto Flautando
Play with a very soft, airy bowing technique, creating a flute-like, whispery sound that is delicate and ethereal.
Molto Flautando Bowed Vibrato
Play very close to the bridge with intense vibrato, producing a sharp, metallic tone with a haunting vibrato effect.
Molto Sul Pont Bowed Vibrato
Play very close to the bridge with intense vibrato, producing a sharp, metallic tone with a haunting vibrato effect.
Molto Sul Pont Tremolo
Perform rapid back-and-forth bowing near the bridge to create a trembling, metallic sound with heightened intensity.
Octave Sweeps
Glide smoothly between octaves, creating a sweeping effect that moves fluidly across the instrument's range.
Plucks Alternating
Alternate between different strings or pitches with a plucking technique, generating rhythmic, percussive textures.
Ricochet Soundscape
Bounce the bow off the strings, creating a rhythmic, bouncing sound that adds a dynamic, textured layer to the music.
Sirens
Glide smoothly up and down in pitch, mimicking the wailing of a siren for a dramatic, oscillating effect.
Spiccato Soundscape
Use a bouncing bow technique with a light, short stroke to create a staccato, textured sound that adds rhythmic interest.
Sul Pont
Play near the bridge to produce a bright, glassy tone with a focused, penetrating sound that emphasizes higher harmonics.
Sul Tasto
Bow over the fingerboard for a soft, muted tone that has a warm, gentle quality, often used for subtle, delicate passages.
Tremolo Soundscape
Perform rapid back-and-forth bowing to create a shimmering, continuous sound, adding tension and energy to the music.
Varied Tremolo
Combine different speeds and dynamics of tremolo to create a varied, evolving texture that shifts in intensity and character.

Beautiful Minimalist Interface With 3 Mic Positions
LIIKKUVA features a simple, easy to use GUI with a minimalist set of controls. On the interface you’ll find:
- 3 Mic Positions – Close, Mid, Far
- Release volume knob
- Reverb – length & mix
- Dynamic slider – allowing you to crossfade between dynamic layers
- Sus Attack & Decay
- Rel Attack & Decay
The Sus Attack & Sus Decay knobs allow you to control the initial attack and decay times of the patch and the Rel Attack and Rel Decay knobs control the attack / decay times of the release samples. This allows you to create a more organic and natural sounding fade in or fade out for each patch.
Additionally, we’ve included a “Random Start” button which will randomise the start position of looped samples, creating a more human feel overall and helping to avoid phasing issues.
