is this better than kick ninja? seems to be very similar. only audija kickdrum has a very unique feature with locking the phase of tail when you just want to edit the start of the kick, but honestly, it's not such a big deal if you know how to use other ways to fix the phase. i'm wondering which one has the best workflow since there are like 5 kick synth plugins competing with each other

I think you should try all of them to see which one you like most (though I know you can't try this one yet, so I guess try the other ones for now), because you might find that what works better for you contradicts the common opinion.

When it comes to how it compares to Kick Ninja, I think the resynthesis part may be better in Kick 3. Aside from that, Kick Ninja does have some features that Kick 3 doesn't (like the fact that you can draw how distortion progresses over the course of the kick, and there's more I'm sure) and opposite is also true, you probably can't get every good feature in one package unfortunately, so it's about what matters to you the most. Or get all of them and use them based on what would work best given the specific case.

I'm probably still set on Audija Kickdrum though. Lifetime of free updates, creator heavily considers feedback and feature requests, so I believe it will keep evolving. Whereas Kick 2 has been abandoned for QUITE a long time and hasn't released a single interesting update in ages, except for now for some reason.. conveniently at a time where 2 other plugins showed up that were actually doing something new and made it a dumb decision to buy Kick 2. As for KickNinja, it seems fine but it kind of popped out of nowhere and I'm not entirely sure about how receptive the dev is to feedback or feature requests and whether or not they'll even add anything new or if its just a one off thing.

It's funny: I've been working with Kick 2 for years and have never had any major problems with the phase. Now all of a sudden Kick 3 is coming out soon and everyone is talking about Kick Ninja, Audija and all kinds of phase problems :-D Apparently I've missed something the last 3 years harharhar.

Yeah it's funny. Cause the last 20 years, don't think every producer paid attention to phase. Loads of hits must have been without that in mind. Interesting to see this paradigm shift.

Just have a look at the Sonic Academy forum: it has been stated there for at least a year that a new version is in the making, including the import/analysis of existing kick samples.

Why would they add such killer features in a free update for version 2?

It's absolutely not the case that Sonic Academy has now made a version 3 ‘in a hurry’ just because Kick Ninja and the other ugly plugin are on the market...
