Taipei Studio Tape Recorder is a plugin designed to deliver strong analog character in the form of a 16-track, 2” tape machine — plus a stereo track, 1/4” tape machine for the master buss.

Digital recording has many advantages, but a major downside is the loss of warmth in a digital mix as compared to an analog recording. While creating the Taipei Studio Tape Recorder plugin, we focused on the recreation of that warm, original “tape” sound to counterbalance this effect.
In the original Taipei by London Acoustics, those unique, magnetic, non-linear dynamics are enriched with fluid, variable saturation and a touch of distortion that usually comes through from the repro head. Everything depends on the frequencies and dynamics of the source.
To achieve the same sounds, we started out by sampling a single machine — but the results were so compelling that we decided to keep expanding this plugin’s possibilities. We ended up with a sound that we had always dreamed of, and that had been missing from our arsenal. Inspired by the sound of the original machine, we added the option to sculpt and personalize each characteristic of the tape sound, as well as a noise reduction stage.
