01 Getting Started
Welcome to Perform Your Music with Ableton Live! I'm Laura Escudé and I'm so stoked that you've decided to invest in yourself and your music! I'm here to guide you through the process of building a live set from the ground up using Ableton Live. It's going to be a wild journey, but by the end, you'll be well on your way to creating the live show of your dreams. But, before we load up Ableton Live, it's important to visualize those dreams of yours. Let's take a moment to imagine what you want your live show to be like. And don't forget to write down your goals!
02 Building a Set in Arrangement View
Time to build our set in Ableton Live! We'll be starting out in Arrangement View before moving into Session View later in the course. Don't worry if you're not sure which View you want to use yet. Many of the concepts covered in Arrangement View carry over to Session View, and I'll show you how to easily move your songs between the Views anytime you want.
03 Building a Set in Session View
It's time to push TAB and start working in Session View! Session View is amazing for improvisation, looping, and so much more. While Session View looks and behaves very differently from Arrangement View, the two Views share a lot in common and can still interact and work together within the same live set.
04 Adding Instruments and Vocals
Our project is built and our stems are in, so what's missing? YOU! Now we get to add your live instruments and vocals to the project and really make this set come alive.
05 Live Looping
Ableton Live's looping tools are amazing for any musician wanting to make their show even more alive and personal. Let's take a look at how to get started creating, layering, and controlling live vocal and instrument loops.
06 Working with Effects
Time for that final bit of sparkle every live show needs: effects! We're going to add and automate effects for instruments and vocals, including Auto-Tune, and turn them into a performative, integral part of our sonic experience.
07 Putting It All Together
You've come so far! By now, you should be starting to see your show taking shape. Your next steps are to keep adding more songs, using the same steps we've taken in this course, and to let your creativity loose! For the finale, I want to show you what my fully-built Ableton Live set looks like. Then, we'll see what it all looks like put together on stage with my performance of "Transmute" from Ableton's Loop conference.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Laura Escudé is a producer and sound artist creating magic through music, tech, and consciousness. She is an innovator, entrepreneur, and live show designer with a deep understanding of complex technology and a profound passion for music and art. Fusing tech with art is her superpower.
Synthesizing her skills as a classically trained violinist and technical prowess as an avant-garde electronic producer, Escudé infuses Neo-classical and sleek futuristic style with raw emotion elicited with her musical machines. She has performed her live electronic show at numerous festivals and events, including Osheaga, Ondalinda, and NAMM. Using technology to advance their fields, Escudé and two other female pioneers are key artists featured on Hello Sunshine + HPE’s documentary “In Her Element”.
Since becoming the first Ableton Certified Trainer back in 2008, Laura’s career highlights include designing shows for Kanye West and Jay Z, opening for Miguel on his 2015 Wildheart tour, building a thriving international business populated by top-tier professionals, and developing premier educational programs accessed around the globe.
After a tour burnout landed Laura in the hospital back in 2016, she was forced to take a break from work and focus on her health. This physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual process involved letting go of unproductive habits and thought patterns, facing her fears, and giving up aspects of her life that no longer served her. The experience inspired Laura to help artists accelerate their live performances using technology, while securing a safe place that encourages their own health and well-being.
