WHY THE NEW WORLD OF MUSIC creation HAS CREATED MILLIONS OF “GENERIC ARTISTS”
(AND HOW TO AVOID BEING ONE )
Let’s face it.
There has never been this much opportunity in the world of music creation.
The barrier to entry is non-existent at this point.
ANYONE and their dog can download a copy of Ableton Live, FL Studio, or Logic Pro…
Get a $9/month subscription to Splice Sounds…
Download a MIDI Pack (by yours truly)…
And throw a bunch of stuff at the wall hoping it sticks.
Oh, and here’s an inconvenient fact for any music creator who’s still stuck in the 90’s…
Most of the time, it actually sounds fine.
I mean, why wouldn’t it? You’re using professionally made samples, loops, MIDI, and you’re putting the jigsaw puzzle together.
It’s like IKEA furniture. Cheap, easy to put together, and does the job just fine.
But here lies the problem…
When you think of IKEA (or flatpack) furniture…
Does the word “unique” come to mind?
What about “original?”
Or “good craftsmanship?”
Of course not. IKEA furniture is mass-produced, easy to use, and to sum it up in one word—it’s fine.
Is what you want for your music?
