Dimension Pro offers an abundance of sounds that range from pristine realistic acoustic instruments, thumping basses, cutting leads, to complex, evolving atmospheres. This wide tonal range can be attributed to both advanced sample mapping and the physical modeling of components, such as piano body/damper simulation and speaker cabinets, along with a powerful sound-sculpting engine with analog sound generation that lets you mutate and recompose any sound you might imagine with flexible, graphical Envelope Generators, tempo-syncing LFOs, and vector mixing.

Feature Highlights:

Two DVDs of multi-samples and grooves with over 1500 sound programs including: guitars, grand pianos, basses, synth basses, analog-style leads, pads, atmospheres, electric pianos, orchestral strings, dozens of evolving textures, and more. Dimension Pro also includes a large library of production-ready drums with groove programs, which can be dragged into the host application as a MIDI file for further manipulation and control.
Powerful synthesis capabilities:
Waveguide generators and wavetable oscillators generate analog-style sounds.
Each program provides up to 20 graphical Envelope Generators for intuitive yet precise control of your sound envelopes.
20 host tempo-syncing LFOs per program, each with 21 shapes, ensure musically useful modulation over all parameters.
Expressive features:
Multiple velocity and keyboard switching and crossfading.
Advanced sample playback techniques, multi-looping, sample switching, and legato on MIDI Continuous Controllers.
Enhanced acoustic simulation is achieved via physical modeling components, such as piano body/damper simulation.
Multi-stage effects sections and filters: insert and send effects for each part including:
Bit reducer and Decimator.
16 filter types.
5 tone drive modes.
3 stackable parametric EQs.
6 delay types.
3 chorus types.
LFO filters.
Autopan.
Room simulation and modulation effects.
Mix and layer up to 4 stereo parts per program.
Vector Mixer for real-time sound morphing: can be controlled by mouse or MIDI, lets you morph sounds by gliding between the different elements of a program.
Drag-and-drop MIDI into host application for groove manipulation.

I think this was replaced with Cakewalk Rapture Pro?

I'm certainly not an expert on Rapture compared to Dimension Pro but form what I read, it seems like Dimension Pro excels at real instruments sounds while Rapture sounds are more synth orientated. Here are several excerpts from from a Cakewalk forum that compares the two:

Even though there is some overlap, they are very much different instruments. Rapture is more "synthy" for synth, electronica, dance, etc... DimPro is more for doing real instruments. However that being said, many people report that DimPro can wail at synth/electronica, so don't write it off for that. The best solution obviously, get both, especially using whatever Cakewalk loyalty pricing you can come up with. Otherwise I would decide what type of music you are doing - i.e. electronica or alot of real instrument type stuff, and then choose accordingly.

From the 'spec similarities', you get that both Dimension Pro and Rapture can load samples and multisamples, both can play wavetable oscillators and waveguides, both have a certain set of sound generation parameters, some DSP, some modulation and some effects. They have a very similar interface, specially in terms of utilities (Program Browser and handling, , MIDI Learn, Copy/Paste element/EG/LFO/Modulator, external X-Y) and widget behavior. Both are available in a myriad of formats, including x64.

The most obvious differences are that Dimension Pro has 8GB of sample material while Rapture is a 40MB download/box, DP has 4 elements while RP has 6, DP can play REX/RX2/RCY where RP can't, DP has bus-type effects while RP doesn't, RP has two filters per element with more filter types while DP has only one, RP has a flexible DSP chain while DP has a fixed one, RP allows for three DSP transforms while DP has bitred and decim only, RP has 7 dedicated modulators while DP has 5, RP has 42 step-generators not present in DP, RP modulation matrix is bigger, RP has multi-mode for wavetables, inter-element ring modulation and tempo-sync envelopes not present in DP, DP has more patches than RP, RP X-Y is assignable while in DP is a cross-fade mixer.

But the real difference set is not that evident. If you check the Pitch EG range in both, you'll see they have a different range. For some sound set, based on acoustic instruments, it's more comfortable to have a smaller range. For some other, extreme tweaker sound set, it's better to have an enormous range. That applies to every of the 1000+ parameters in each.

The bottom line is, it's all about what kind of synthesizer you're after. If you are after a synthesis outcome which has acoustic components, it's DP. If it's about all electronic sounds, it's RP.

Hope this helps.

Dimension Pro is the one you want to download, it has quite a few "real" instrument sounds.

It is not that simple. Both synths can load and playback samples. Both make use of sfz files. Many of the sfz files bundled with DPro play fine in Rapture. There are differences though and given you were looking for the synth which plays "real instrument" sounds, out of the box DPro is the choice of the two.
