Recorded, in Dhaka. Bangladesh, multi-instrumentalist Nishit Dey and producer Enayet stretch the possibilities of the sitar and tabla with experimental playing techniques and treatments. Unconventional tabla strokes––playing with nails, striking the rim and using the elbow to mute––and modifications of the sitar–– dampening sympathetic strings with fabric tied around the neck––are explored.

Add some retro charm to your music with the iconic sound of this '70s electro-mechanical piano called the Pianet T.

The reeds in the Pianet T aren't struck, but instead are engaged by NASA-patented pink plastic suction pads that suck on the reeds until they snap loose and begin to vibrate. Small coils, similar to guitar pickups, then convert the vibrations into electrical sound. The intricate sounds produced by these coils comprise numerous sine waves. In the case of the Pianet T model, it occasionally necessitates the computation of over 100 sine waves to craft its distinct sound profile.

Small Saw is quite an unusual instrument, but you’ll probably be familiar with its sound if you’ve ever watched older movies or cartoons. It’s a theremin-like sound produced by playing a saw with a violin bow. The saw vibrates and the player bends its metal surface to alter the pitch. To get a better idea of what it sounds like, check out the official demo video which is embedded at the top of this page. It shows the artist Igor Talashov playing the instrument at a concert.
