The Whale Drum is a modern incarnation one of the worldā€™s oldest known instruments: the tongue or slit drum. A member of the idiophone family, variations of these tuned percussion instruments are found around the globe, spanning many cultures from Africa to Asia and the Americas. They were originally carved from hollow logs or wooden blocks and struck to produce percussive musical tones. It is one of the few instruments considered to possibly predate language itself. Modern slit drums have been substantially refined and typically feature 6 or more wooden tongues, offering a marimba-like warmth, with a dreamy tone, gentle softly-rounded note attack and subtly undulating ring. The lower notes have an especially deep richness to them.

The Cylindrum is a massive tuned percussion instrument designed using the principle of open and closed air column resonance. The instrument was constructed by Gregg Stephens with the help some rather involved mathematics, plenty of elbow grease and quite a few bloody fingers. The end result is a massive 20-foot-long tuned percussion instrument with a pitch range spanning a full 4 octaves. Overall, it sounds like a strange organic synthesizer coupled with tuned tom toms. And with deeply nuanced dynamic velocity layering and extensive round-robin variation, this instrument is truly an experimental percussionist's dream come true.

The Old Busted Granny Piano is pretty special to us, though it doesn't sound all that fancy. Actually, it sounds pretty damn rough around the edges, but thatā€™s just the way we like her. Sure, there are plenty of other great upright piano libraries out there, with their shining lacquer and pristine strings, but none of them ever captured the authentic beauty of a cheap, dusty, beat up, rusting, long untuned upright piano. This is the kind of old heap your grandma had in her living room. This particular instrument has been in Soundiron co-founder Chris Marshallā€™s family for many years, before being passed on from one new home to the next. This was also one of the very first instruments Mike Peaslee deep-sampled. We don't know the brand or model off hand, but she looked to be about 60 or 70 years old and quite beat up the last time we saw her.

The theme and purpose of Clack! is pretty simple. We wanted to capture as much sharp, bright, warm, tonal wooden impact percussion as your heart desires. We captured several bamboo poles, bamboo logs, a whole pile of claves, woodblocks, clappers, box drum, and other assorted wooden implements that epitomize the word "thwack." These elements are specifically ideal auxiliary elements for orchestral composition and epic film/tv/game soundtrack scoring. They also are vital elements in Latin music and hip hop, as well as very useful percussion building-blocks and raw source material for experimental music and IDM.

Didgeridoo (aka Didge) is an Australian Aboriginal wind instrument dating back over approx.1500-2000 years. The instrument is made from Eucalyptus logs hollowed out by termites and is widely regarded as one of the oldest woodwind (aerophone) instruments in existence. Tonehammer recorded two different Didges for maximum user flexibility. The first one was is an original Eucaplyptus log and the second one is modern version made from PVC pipes. The library contains over approx. 500MB of samples and programs contain modwheel controlled time-stretching and sample offset options allowing users to get more flexibility out of the samples. The Didges come at two different mic (close/medium) distances and a far mic for our dual-didge FX group. Didge 1 is close mic and Didge 2 is medium mic.

Antidrum 1 contains 18 unconventional percussive instrument collections, sampled in a variety of exotic locations totaling nearly a gigabyte, with 2400 precision multi-samples. It is a celebration of every day objects and sounds transforming into strange and compelling new musical instruments.This library includes uniquely playable instruments ranging from heavy work boot stomps to water cooler impacts, clicking baby toys, red rubber playground balls, hand-slapped ukulele and guitar "drums", shock mount bass thumps, clapping ensembles, nail gun shots, shouts, drum circle strikes and so much more. Some instruments are recorded in ensemble, while others are captured solo. We recorded many of the sounds in our favorite hall, while others were recorded in the wild, out in real-world environments.

AntiDrum 2 is a follow-up to our popular Anti-Drum I. This time we wanted to push the bar even further into the realm of abstract percussion and musical exploration. This library is the ideal creative toolbox for experimental sound and music design. The library contains 3866 samples and 71 different instrument patches that each represent a unique texture. The library contains a variety of instruments recorded in one of our signature halls, including boom whackers, PVC pipe percussion ensemble to flower vases, glasses, rainsticks, soda bottles. The library also contains a variety of even more unconventional instruments ranging from human beats through a cellphone (10 round robin and 10 velocity layers), stop watches and a compressive patch made from a severe food poisoning that we call: "the human trumpet".

The Alien Drum (aka Hang Drum ā€“ trademarked by Pan Art) is a unique tone based percussion instrument, which is almost impossible to come by, since there is only one maker in the world and less than 1000 drums in circulation. The instrument has a soft, sorrowful, melancholic tone to it and is a perfect companion for emotional or ambient type of scores. The Tonehammer Alien Drum is unique in the sense it was recorded at an average of 15 velocity layers and with 10 round-robin repetitions pr. layer/note, so you will never experience any repetition in the articulation.

The Lakeside Pipe Organ is a part steel pipe and part electric organ that produces most of its sound by venting mechanically compressed air (wind) through resonant pipes. Each pipe produces sound of one fixed pitch, so they are provided in sets with one pipe or more per note, each set or stop having a common timbre and loudness throughout.The Lakeside Pipe Organ has multiple sets of pipes of differing timbre, pitch and loudness which the player can employ singly or in combination. The actual organ is made from three keyboards, played by the hands, and a pedal board for bass notes, played by the feet, each of which controls its own group of stops.

We decided to sample this instrument deeper and more creatively then ever before in the history of samples. The best current water phone libraries contains approx. 180-200 samples, which is less then 1/15 of the Tonehammer Waterphone, which contains a mighty 2,903 samples recorded with a variety of bows, a huge set of mallets, metal devices, hands and other contraptions.
