Splice Sessions Dub Reggae WAV-FANTASTiC screenshot
FANTASTiC | 14 May 2024 | 851.18 MB
Dub Reggae is the follow-up to Splice Sessions’ first Island Reggae pack from our studio time at Anguilla Music Academy. Dub music originated as a subgenre of reggae and is characterized by remixes significantly manipulating the original recording, usually through the removal of vocal parts, emphasis on the rhythm section (the stripped-down drum-and-bass track is known as a riddim in the reggae dub communities), the use of studio effects such as echo and reverb, and the occasional dubbing of vocal or instrumental snippets from another piece of music or sound.

Smile - The Story of Lily Allen screenshot
2010 | ISBN: 1849380619 | 208 pages | EPUB | 7,05 MB
Winning awards, losing love, longing for stability and affection, being pitted against Amy Winehouse by the press - Lily's meteoric rise to fame has been peppered with extreme highs and lows, no lower than when she tragically suffered a miscarriage in 2008. A story that was, like every step of Lily's life, pored over by the press. Unlike many more demure pop princesses, Lily smokes, drinks, eats - yes, eats - and has a damn good time doing it, all the while keeping the tabloids on their toes. From her debut album "Alright, Still" to sophomore release "It's Not Me, It's You", Lily has been singing sweetly about all of it from bad sex, naughty boys, beating depression, joint-smoking brothers, cocaine to her gran, her insecurities and her home town.

Consuming Music: Individuals, Institutions, Communities 1730-1830 screenshot
English | 2017 | ISBN: 1580465773 | 265 Pages | PDF | 31.7 MB
The successful sale and distribution of music has always depended on a physical and social infrastructure. Though the existence of that infrastructure may be clear, its organization and participants are among the least preserved and thus least understood elements of historical musical culture. Who bought music and how did those consumers know what music was available? Where was it sold and by whom? How did the consumption of music affect its composition?

Tonal Space in the Music of Antonio Vivaldi screenshot
English | ISBN: 0253351294 | 2008 | 386 pages | PDF | 6 MB
Tonal Space in the Music of Antonio Vivaldi incorporates an analytical study of Vivaldi's style into a more general exploration of harmonic and tonal organization in the music of the late Italian Baroque. The harmonic and tonal language of Vivaldi and his contemporaries, full of curious links between traditional modal thinking and what would later be considered common-practice major-minor tonality, directly reflects the historical circumstances of the shifting attitude toward the conceptualization of tonal space so crucial to Western art music.

In Search of the Blues: A Journey to the Soul of Black Texas screenshot
ISBN: 0465028586, 0465018122 | 2008 | EPUB | 320 pages | 894 KB
In this extraordinary reconstruction of the origins of the blues, historian Marybeth Hamilton demonstrates that the story as we know it is largely a myth. Following the trail of characters like Howard Odum, who combed Mississippi’s back roads with a cylinder phonograph to record vagrants, John and Alan Lomax, who prowled Southern penitentiaries and unearthed the rough, melancholy vocals of Leadbelly, and James McKune, a recluse whose record collection came to define the primal sounds of the Delta blues, Hamilton reveals this musical form to be the culmination of a longstanding white fascination with the exotic mysteries of black music.

The New York Schools of Music and the Visual Arts screenshot
English | 2001 | ISBN: 0815333641, 0415936942 | 224 pages | PDF | 12,4 MB
Musicians and artists have always shared mutual interests and exchanged theories of art and creativity. This exchange climaxed just after World War II, when a group of New York-based musicians, including John Cage, Morton Feldman, Earle Brown, and David Tudor, formed friendships with a group of painters. The latter group, now known collectively as either the New York School or the Abstract Expressionists, included Jackson Pollock, Willem deKooning, Robert Motherwell, Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Clyfford Still, Franz Kline, Phillip Guston, and William Baziotes. The group also included a younger generation of artists-particularly Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns-that stood somewhat apart from the Abstract Expressionists.

Music in the Age of Anxiety : American Music in the Fifties screenshot
English | 2016 | ISBN: 0252081560 | 311 Pages | PDF | 2.26 MB
Derided for its conformity and consumerism, 1950s America paid a price in anxiety. Prosperity existed under the shadow of a mushroom cloud. Optimism wore a Bucky Beaver smile that masked worry over threats at home and abroad. But even dread could not quell the revolutionary changes taking place in virtually every form of mainstream music. Music historian James Wierzbicki sheds light on how the Fifties' pervasive moods affected its sounds.
