a member named Pilgrim has send this link to me with some interesting info about Sonart Audio...
here's a small excerpt:
Do not buy samples from Sonart Audio!

They are running a scam. They have a really nice looking website that claims to offer some amazing content at a really good price. They offer a yearly subscription that claims to give you like 67 gigs of material plus 12 new products in 2008.

UPD: so, do you think we should remove everything that's been released by this company and put their name in the blacklist?

There's so many sample companies out there releasing shit material. It makes it hard to actually spend money on this stuff, because there's a good possibility that you'll just end up with a disc full of unusable crap. For the most part, I just stick to Zero-G and Big Fish Audio.

It IS a scam company, samples are stolen from other collections and where ever, not to mention that the quality is totally shit. The packs are totally useless with same wav file copied thousand times and things like that. I don't know how they can continue doing business actually ..

Yes, Sonart products are all ripped off from other collections and tend to be low to middle of the road at best quality. This is one company that deserves to have all their stuff stolen and warezed.

Frankly, since most of their products are so poor, they'tre not even worth downloading for free.

Glad this posting was made to warn others.

Not very nice of Sonart. Still, I am not entirely sure that what they do is illegal (malicious fraud. IANAL) or if they simply are a company with some really crappy product line.

Better to invest into donating to some people who sample stuff themselves. There are some really passionate people around who produce high quality samples that are perfectly suitable enough for average homerecording needs. Still, how can you know in advance except by information like the on to be found in the link. Bless the internet, I say (well, in this case anyway.)

I knew it for a long time, and I wondered why we accepted this shit here. But I did not dare to protest - as I usually do -, because I realized that some uploaders here need this kind of shit to earn enough to pay their daily hamburger...
Such a shame.

Like in every business and every branch, there are alyways some assholes who want to make money by doing nothing, and deceiving and ripping off customers.

Why should it be different in the music business? dunno

Thanks for the warning.

I'll avoid them from now on; thanks a lot :]

Thank God we still have sites like these that offer us 'try-before-buy's!

just like I thought, i mean, the loop files tend to sound a little too different from one another and there's only like 20 or less included in each pack. do they really believe we're stupid and unable to see through their bullsh!t?? haha

I noticed this stuff was GARBAGE, but didn't know it ran this deep.

Hell, all the Sonart posts should be removed from our beloved AudioZ site!! tongue but seriously.. I was mad the first (and last) time I downloaded something they made.

some sonart stuff isn't too bad
but lots of same samples in all the packs

when they first started 'this sort of thing' was an outrage to people.

but nowadays there are a lot of 'average sample packs' about

taking 'manufacturing an actual CD' out of the equation the 'quality of samples' sometimes falls to poor.

I ask myself "do i really need it" when i hear a new sample pack
and I also listen to 'what i have' that is similar and decide if the new pack is 'cutting edge' or just more of the same.

if your going to blacklist anything blacklist some of the PREHISTORIC shit that gets posted sometimes

I just stick to Zero-G and Big Fish Audio.

i usually avoid these

I'm more of a loopmasters Sample Magic but even that is getting sketchy

there is a real quality control on any sample company
I blame piracy :)

but at least it pushed the prices down a bit

I'll admit that both companies have released quite a few duds (Big Fish Audio more so than Zero-G), but occasionally, both will release some good, highly usable material (for my tastes, at least).

I generally stay away from anything with Bunker 8's name attached to it. They have libraries that are 4GB in size, yet only consist of a handful of terrible construction kits. I also stay away from Uberschall. I've heard several of "their" samples that were lifted from other companies. "Ambient Works", for example, contains several samples from Spectrasonics' "Bizarre Guitar", with a few effects added. Plus, I hate using that stupid "elastik player".

Yeah Sample Magic is almost always quality, at least the techno/house packs, don't you agree? Loopmasters sometimes is hit & miss but sometimes pretty good. Wave Alchemy is great new company too with quality stuff.. I am happy to part my money with quality ;)

I dont think you should remove 'em.

If the wankers think they can sell shite to producers then we should pirate the fuck out of them.

Then again, if peepz on here are downloading them, its a shame when they eventually get it its full of shite ??? dunno

When i buy its usually from Loopmasters & Prime Loops. But u still have to be carefull what u buy. Depends how seasoned a producer u are.

I dont need bass or loop samples anyway. Whats the point ??

Im always after good kick drums & snares though wink

Looks like the company website is down. All links lead to either the Google start page or "page can not be found" page. If they were using other sites loops it could have been that they were licensed to resell the loops. On the other hand selling 40 g of the same 20 loops is inexcuseable.

I don't think they will be back under that name because of the bad reputation so it may not matter if they are black listed. Usually when a company gets exposed on the level that this one did they change the name and emerge under a different entity. I would say remove the links and keep an eye out for a new and different company that has the same type of product.

They can keep this tied up in court for years while they continue to sell the same product under different names. They know that by the time the system catches up to them they will have made enough proffit to pay for several court cases. They also know that there is a sucker born every minute.

Big ups to Saint and the Audio Z community.

You can use loops in creative way too .. I like to mess around with loops, they can really kick start a groove ;) I don't understand sometimes why people hate loops so much .. There's so much you can do with them .

I guess removing them is the best choice. The only reasonable argument to keep that type of content (assuming the quality is really that bad) would have been to indirectly(!) warn others about the bad quality through free pretesting. As the company is gone killing and blacklisting is a good idea. There is nothing wrong with trying to maintain a certain minimum quality level.

PS: On the other hand... Maybe someone likes these samples. Quality has a subjective side, right?

@ olavi,

I totally agree mate, but with me i dont feel the sense of satisfaction when it isn't my own work. I know you can mash a loop up etc etc but it aint for me im afraid.. wink

Not really related but another example is construction kits ???? lol

I think there a total insult to your intelligence.

Yeah, they're a total rip off. They basically just repeat the same samples at different tempos, once you've taken all the crap out your left with almost nothing. Not worth downl;oading and definitely not worth paying for.

Vengeance are also a con, they are quick to remove uploaded links but peopel don't realise a lot of their drum loops/hits are from other people's tunes that they haven't asked permission to use, plus they are just ripping the loops from MP3's and trying to pass them off as WAVs, they're massive con artists.

quick add: about the loops debate

All top producers use loops, they do it creatively and interestingly, along side their own playing. (source Computer Music in the studio with videos)

not using loops is just some macho crap, I don't want to get in the debate

but

what would be good is some kind of total ongoing poll of sample CDs etc so we could rate companies on
overall quality of samples. i don't know how it could be done, but it would make for an interesting read.

As soon as the forums are up, I'm sure the debating can kick off - as well as polls about companies.

Regarding all this: yes, please let us avoid posting this in the future, preferably by using a blacklist.

Loops may not seem original, but I assure you -if used mindfully- they can be very amazing.
At the end, yes, I prefer making my own loops; but as a pianist, I can't drum, so I really like
using drum loops. And -lets be honest- nothing beats the recording of a real drummer, not
even your best drum sampler :]

Hmmmm lol

Im all for the poll of sample packs though !!

I'm inclined to Vote "remove!" -- since apparently, even if they do have something useful in a pack, it's redundant and stolen from other sample packs/songs/etc.

I have used some of them in the past on projects. They're not totally useless. Even if it's just one loop, and I find a way to use it somehow, then it's worth something. I say keep em up. People can decide for themselves whether they want them or not.
