Discuss how to post freeware on Audioz? screenshot
I would like to keep posting freeware on Audioz, but i know its kind of stupid to have only cyberlockers, which have strong restrictions. then i have some other ideas or suggestions regarding posting freeware.

Here are few rules, which sound fair to me.

- we should put freeware into the archive section, to not fill up the Fresh section with useless stuff in the eyes of most members.
- provide always a zippyshare link and a direct download link (if you can find one!), if not zippyshare will do. other cyberlockers can be used still, but zippyshare or the direct download has to be included
- provide homepage link to the developer of the freeware
- Tagged with [FREE] in the topic title
- mirrors open

Would be even better, if we could create a dedicated section for freeware. So people could browse for freeware. AudioSex posting freeware always ends getting lost in all of the other threads posted. (Or some kind of filter feature to filter [FREE] containing posts, i would actual use this to filter out trap sample packs )

Would like to know the opinions about that ideas?

fixed some wording issues. SAiNT

Yep, definitely liking the idea proposed by Articstorm.

Is there any way to stick this post to the top of the archives feed so people don't miss it?

These 3 rules:
- provide homepage link to the developer of the freeware
- Tagged with [FREE] in the topic title
- mirrors open

Already exist.

As someone said already, freeware vst8i) is not the same as free samples. But the work needed to create a specific freeware section with subsections for each type is maybe too much.

Imho the most important thing about posting freeware is to have a real selection, not posting freeware just because it's easy to find and to get.
Many freeware are bad programed and use too much cpu for what they bring. So one of the most important criteria to post freeware would be to post it after really trying it, and bring only what's really worth it. I know it's subjective, but a mono synth or simple EQ using 25% cpu is not so subjective. so that mean not posting freeware for the sake of it.

The link to the web page where the freeware can be downloaded should be into peeplink too. Not the direct link because this only generate cost on bandwidth for the developer and no visit.
Visits are the most valuable for freeware developers.

How about a different tag/colour for free posts, or a symbol in front of the title? The [FREE] thing wasn't always typed how it was meant to, so it didn't really catch the attention of users imho.
Probably it would be a nice thing to do to actually post [FREE] before the title?

i wanted to restate the existing rules and add a few new ones to make it more sharp and to make it impossible to spam the fresh release section.
If you want to supply something, you can. PM is open for that.

good points, but sort of un-enforceable? unless you require a statement of cpu
usage with the post ?? and subjective as you said.. one man's trash..can be
another man's treasure

good in principle, difficult in practice..

Yes it's at some point subjective, but not always. Some C++ badly programed vst that eat 70% cpu on an i7 and bring nothing new, obviously don't worth it. I agree that this still let a lot of place for "bad" plugins to be posted , but it's a mark not to post for the sake of it.

Combined with comment from the one who post, who would be supposed to have tested what he post and explain why is it interesting, all this should get us rid of at least some useless posts.

I would suggest separating the download link provided by the dev (so he can keep track of the downloads and other stats) from the others.

Would be even better, if we could create a dedicated section for freeware. So people could browse for freeware. AudioSex posting freeware always ends getting lost in all of the other threads posted.

definitely yes, having a freebies section would be great, because some people don't really need a reminder of the free stuff coming out that probably we are already aware of, after all AudioZ purpose as far as I remember wasn't really a news website about stuff coming out.

Putting freewares in the archive section would be a compromise, although I definitely prefer a dedicated section.

Can I download everything from KVR, BRPB, all the other sites etc. and post it here? Would it be ok to repeat it with every single update? (It's not even that hard to script it).
If not, you should consider something that would not allow to post here everything someone finds somewhere as much as he/she wants, not because it's good or useful, but just because it's freeware.

Btw. Zippyshare is not the only "good" hoster out there. With all the JS ad lately it even doesn't look really good compared with e.g. mystore.to or FileStore.to.

Regarding of what most of the users here think, I'm NOT against Freeware.
In fact, I use some (Found in KVR or Rekkerd) .
Posting Freeware should be volunteer and with FREE links like Mega, Zippyshare and Mediafire.
There's a reason why they are free... Because the developers (were you should always download from) are not asking nothing in return, just your visit to the page.
I see here many people telling how much time they loose in going to KVR and Rekkerd, but for me, that's only BS, because they are not that busy people....
Also, anyone who wants to post Freeware, should at least try first and tell others what they think about, instead of just posting everything...

Just my 2 cents....

I know there are loads of Freeware sites around and a lot of us probably check them at least semi-regularly but the idea of those of us who do check them cherry-picking them for what we think other members will appreciate is, in my opinion, an excellent idea. Take earning pennies-per-click or whatever out of the equation and there should be a decent collection of goodies to be had for nothing...legally.

As regards the 'rules' I can't see a problem, and I especially endorse linking back to the software developer wherever possible. Separate section? Yes please.

I don't even know why all the discuss about that... Things were ok...
A simple tag with [FREE] will do it...

quote by recycleI’m against free stuff on homepage.
That’s because audioz rapidly become a garage sale with all the junk possible, look what happened in the last months (read integral affair). With that said, yes we could organize a submenu, a free zone, in a way that does not pollute team releases and all the good warez we are all grateful of.
@Articstorm I like the zippyshare idea on free links

Because you can't make good music with free stuff?

For sure, you'll can make good music with some free (or very cheap/donationware) softwares/plugs!

Just missing a free (serious) DAW, but REAPER works without registration (assuming it is very affordable regardling features).

Put them in the archives column. Just get them out of the way of team releases. And maybe mandate zippyshare or something like that.

Or possibly, if you can update the site, put an option in user preferences to not show free posts on the main page.

A dedicated FREE Section with direct link from the dev site (if available) plus cyberlockers with a good download speed for free users.

I totally agree with articstorm's opening statement . hope, we finally find a solution to bring this service back. i really enjoy these kind of posts, because of all the new companies that I have discovered thus far.

so, one thing only. i would not put freebie links into the archives section. why not add an own section to the navigation? we have software, requests, education, .... maybe either here as own item or under software as sub category.

I used to see freeware in the archive section until integral posted them in the wrong section and nobody checked him. If he was told to post them in the archive section, there never would have been an issue.

Great 2 see all the ideas and some real good suggestions
Have nothing against freeware as you get to hear about some great stuff through it being posted.
For me personally a separate category would be ideal but if difficult to implement then sure, find an alternative solution.
All the main things have been covered but in essence they would be

Great 2 see u making headway with this situation and really admire the way in which it's been done

as long as people aren't making money off of products that were designed to be free, I don't care where the posts are or who posts them.

there are sites where I could go to get freeware if I wanted to, besides here. I come here to test "premium" warez & test drum kits before I buy them.

I suppose freeware in another section so we don't have to see 20+ FREE posts every other day, that was ridiculous.

people haven't been down voting for no reason, so I thank Saint for listening. I'm sure we can all come to a solution that works for everybody without kicking anybody off the island...

I agree that a zippyshare link should be mandatory for all freeware.

Also I think integral should be prohibited from posting freeware. He obviously has no respect for the rules here and will continue to break them along with any new ones made.
What you allow is what will continue

We have now:
"Fresh Releases", "Archives"

My IMHO, we just need 3 columns:
"Fresh Releases", "Free Products", "Archives"
.

as you might have noticed, zippyshare can no longer be reached in europe without tor or proxies.

another question... how do i upload stuff to the site in general?
