Mainroom Techno in Live by Paul Maddox screenshot
Following the huge success of his Tech House and Techno course, Paul Maddox returns with a superb follow up set up of tutorials, offering even more of his production knowledge and expertise. This time round, Paul’s focus is on tougher, straight up Techno, and instead of showing how to make a single arrangement, he demonstrates how a groove can be taken in two very different directions, with one having classic, melodic elements and the other a much more atonal sound.

With numerous label releases and support from huge DJs including techno legend Richie Hawtin, Paul’s depth of understanding and experience in the field of techno production extends far beyond most. The combination of this skill set and his passion for teaching make his tutorials a must-see for anyone wanting to truly master the genre. Packed with creative techniques, which utilise only Live’s internal and Max for Live devices, the modules cover both the essential fundamentals and divergent approaches to producing techno.

Starting with the drum groove, Paul creates the beats and bass, employing ingenious tactics for achieving the all-important, rumbling techno bass sound. Following this, he demonstrates how to add ambience and subtle rhythmic textures, before applying individual and group processing. The latter modules then cover the creation of melodic parts, including a modular-style, atonal lead, using M4L devices and a synthesised and resampled ‘vinyl’ lead, whilst teaching many advanced signal processing and macro-mapping techniques along the way.

This is my first contribution to the community that I had to purchase myself to be able to do so. Thank you to the audioz community for supporting me for a long time...this is me giving back!

i have no issues following him...he is saying that the key doesn't matter...most techno is atonal and its about finding where it fits audibly rather than making sure its perfectly in key.

as for his other tutorials i think he presents ideas very easily and he is a great teacher and producer. love his tunes and his tuts! you're welcome dim! i am far from a beginner myself but i always pay attention to new tutorials as i may learn a new trick or inspire something within i didn't have before ;-)
