Reason 6 (401) - Reason's Mixing Toolbox screenshot
Released : Sep 30th, 2011 videos | 70 minutes
Finally, Reason 6 mixes!! That's because built right into Reason is the coolest SSL-style mixer ever created for any DAW! However, before you can mix, you’ve got to learn the tools!

In this tutorial, Reason’s Mixing Toolbox, Master Mixologist Mo Volans takes you though a mix from start to finish. Along the way you’ll learn about the Reason mixer’s different sections and its cool new tools. First, Mo explains the built-in dynamics section with its compression and gating on every channel strip! Next, Mo shows you how he uses the channel strip’s EQ and filters to bring out the inherent sonic character in every track.

The tutorial progresses into an extensive section on FX where you’ll learn how to set up the rack to receive sends from the channel strips and bring it all back again into the musical stew! Mo then explains the audio functionality of the insert and send effects and why you need to know the difference!

From there he examines the reverb, delay, modulation, distortion and saturation effects as he applies them to put a sonic sheen to the individual tracks in this ever-expanding remix. Not to be missed is the killer video about using the amazingly powerful Combinator in your mixes!

Finally, Mo takes you to Reason’s Mighty Master Channel! There you’ll learn all about master bus compression and how to use the master channel’s inserts and returns. This section is a teaser for Mo’s other new Reason 6 tutorial at macProVideo.com, Reason’s Mastering Toolbox. Check it out!

So yes, now Reason 6 mixes, and you will too when you learn all about Reason’s Mixing Toolbox with Mix Master Mo Volans!

With Reason 6 and Record, they introduced a WIBU dongle.
No way to get a fully working version after v5.
All the WIBU protected features (like saving...excuse the most important) will never work.
And to me, Reason is dead (with Props) since Record mess.

I'm with Laplace on this one : dead soft, along Cubase and Steinberg stuffs.
Uncracked ? They are happy ? Good for them. Most ppl don't care and moved on.

Cubase is not dead, it's still one of the most powerful DAWs and 8 is right around the corner which will hopefully finally offer dockable windows. Sure it's not as popular as it once was and you can thank Steinberg's elicenser crap for that but still. Reason is dead but there are still some amazing producers using it, not sure why exactly but...

Oh actually I do know why, they claim that the workflow is better.

I totally see they are still good softs...for ppl using them ;)
I've just seen a dubstep tutorial on Cubase MAC.
Steinberg are not going to close the doors. Props too. They still get new RE devs.
But they came from an omnipotent place. Cubase is the older MIDI (and now more) sequencer. And Reason is the soft everyone was speaking about 10 years ago.
But now, when there is a new release, almost no one cares. For real.
When Ableton was out and Reason too, at the same time, guess who got all the attention ? Now Reason is v8, and even if there is no concurrent DAW upgrade...no one speak about it. Cubase don't get any attention, related to what it was before uncracked dongle. Every Cubase update was a godsend. Now you see an article, test...and bye.
They succeeded in making all their users paying customers...good. But now, everytime there is a vote about WHAT daw ppl are using in real life, you see Cubase along the last ones. before Reason, but after Logic (Mac only BTW).
I didn't wanted to bury Cubase or Reason, but to point out today, when you don't speak actively about a DAW, you can consider it going downhill for sure.
No hype, no sells.
And may be Steinberg didn't made dockable GUI because they got less clients and more dongle fees ;)
