You mean the morons on radio stations or MTV/VH1 that play shit songs over and over again until it stuck in your brain?
That means of course that you have to listen to those radio-stations or look at those TV shows.

When i used to work at a small radiostation we got tons of unreleased music and when i listen to those i used to say this is good this will be a hit.

But it didn´t then when i heard another shitty song i said this is crap who wants to listen to that?
It became a hit but NOT immediately only after other BIG stations have played it over and over again for a week or two.

Thats make you wonder have someone paid them to do that?

I think many folks actually disregarded the fact they need to make their music approachable and in the same time to have some weight, artistic egoistic type of musicians are too screwed up to make a hit, because their music is show off how artistic they are and doesn't resonates with wider audience, others that want that hit so bad are lacking fundamental soul for it, they have bigger dreams than knowledge, their shortcut road is just leaving them standing in other lane with other copycats and desperate fame seekers, so that's why team behind one performer can nail something that will be hit worldwide, they have what it takes together, one need to step out from his comfort zone, to embrace music in general and than to commit to it from all angles, balancing his artistic urges with satisfying general approachable vibe, you can spot a hit in every genre, because it have universal vibe, it sounds memorable, many folks are too stuck up in their stuff they can't be realistic about it, change what doesn't work, even if that is best one can do, that's clear sing it needs more than that, if something is not haunting you, than it's not memorable enough, pure example is track from our member olson h., that's hit track, tasteful, approachable, hooky, it have what it takes to be a hit, not many tracks out there stand a chance or even sound remotely memorable, many tracks challenge listeners in a wrong way, left them feeling uncomfortable and weird, unsatisfied, some things just works and others have place for improvement/originality/attention, there are many ingredients in hit all together, sometimes is barely one hook, but that hook was enough or it's just carefully made for specific demographics, sure it's about right place and time, people you know, spotlight, repetition, but if you have something that smells like hit, than nobody can deny you that, internet is yours, you can spot a hit when it's played on piano, when it's just composition/idea, hooky/memorable/recognizable with right dose familiarity and individuality, it's universal and one should be in really special mindset with right taste and enough skills&knowledge or just surrounded with great team of people that compensate each other and have something special to bring on the table all together and individually

Pretty much bro. you've saved me 3 hrs or however long this tutorial was. I applaud his efforts though. But truth is music is all about creativity and breaking boundaries. There is no set formula/rule. Just my opinion.

Then forget nr 1 as most songs today sounds the same atleast those shitty dance songs they play on the radio and that goes for many rock and pop songs too.
To be unique today means you have to play very very very different music and most likely atonal music and with no rythm at all.

I say play from your heart and whatever genre you like to play.
