Rapidly becoming one of the top producers to work with, FM dropped into Starsmith's London studio to get some technical info on how he produced tracks for Ellie Goulding and his latest solo material.

Starsmith (born Finlay Dow-Smith, 8 July 1988, Bromley, England) is an electronic remixer, composer and musician. He studied a classical music degree at the University of Surrey majoring in performance on saxophone. He has already received acclaim for the remixes he has created for Katy Perry, Little Boots, Passion Pit, Paloma Faith, Marina and the Diamonds, Lady Gaga, Boy Crisis, The Twang and Frankmusik.

As well as producing the majority of the tracks, he co-wrote five tracks on Ellie Goulding's debut album Lights, which following its release on 1 March 2010, went straight to #1 in the UK Albums Chart. He also produced tracks for Diana Vickers' debut album, Songs from the Tainted Cherry Tree which also went straight to #1 in the UK Albums Chart in May 2010. According to Twitter, he has also been in the recording studio working with Cheryl Cole and Kylie Minogue.

Starsmith appeared alongside Goulding on Later... with Jools Holland, playing bass guitar. He also plays piano and guitar, and his main instrument is the saxophone (tenor or alto).
Starsmith claimed a source of inspiration for the type of electro pop music he produces was the track "In Step" by FrankMusik.
