I would recommend watching the video "12 Biggest EQ Mistakes" by Mixbustv on youtube. He brings up this type of EQing in one of the points, and says what to do instead.

All of the above comments, this is really bad tutorial. Just watched it to see how he EQ stuff based on the funny screenshot, apparently really amateur way of mixing. He shouldnt even teach to begin with.
