Designing Software Synthesizer Plug-Ins in C++: For RackAFX, VST3, and Audio Units screenshot
2015 | 552 Pages | ISBN: 1138787078 | PDF | 62.96 MB
Bridging the gap from theory to programming, Designing Software Synthesizer Plug-Ins in C++ For RackAFX, VST3 and Audio Units contains complete code for designing and implementing software synthesizers for both Windows and Mac platforms. You will learn synthesizer operation, starting with the underlying theory of each synthesizer component, and moving on to the theory of how these components combine to form fully working musical instruments that function on a variety of target digital audio workstations (DAWs). Containing some of the latest advances in theory and algorithm development, this book contains information that has never been published in textbook form, including several unique algorithms of the author’s own design.

The book is broken into three parts: plug-in programming, theory and design of the central synthesizer components of oscillators, envelope generators, and filters, and the design and implementation of six complete polyphonic software synthesizer musical instruments, which can be played in real time. The instruments implement advanced concepts including a user-programmable modulation matrix. The final chapter shows you the theory and code for a suite of delay effects to augment your synthesizers, introducing you to audio effect processing.

The companion website, www.focalpress.com/cw/pirkle, gives you access to free software to guide you through the application of concepts discussed in the book, and code for both Windows and Mac platforms. In addition to the software, it features bonus projects, application notes, and video tutorials. A reader forum, monitored by the author, gives you the opportunity for questions and information exchange.

Thanks..but I think I would rather become pregnant than understand how to program anything in C++

man, it's so easy to program using C++ ! someone said it before "Everyone should learn programming, It will help you to understand how your computer works and will give you a powerful tool to solve any problem" , except pregnancy for sure

I think it's time for me to stop bullshitting and take the plunge. I've been wanting to learn this stuff for a long time now.

You're right 'Lukehh', it must be a "pain in the a... " to learn such Programming Language.
Unfortunately, it's the only way to build really performant 'VST Plugins' (not to blame Programs such as 'SynthMaster' or 'SynthEdit'), but for the Audio Quality Flow... 'C++' is the Winner !!!

Now we can perhaps, among all our Members, to finally create our own 'VST Plugins', then get off
of all the troubles encountered with some of these that we 'grab' here !!!

I already know C++ and C# and several other languages. I learned them because I love algorithms and logic and programming and math and all that. That being said, there's no way I could ever program a VST better than what has already been done such as Massive, Sylenth1, etc. so I would just read this book for the love of the subject but not with the goal or expectation of beating Sylenth1.

Good. Let's create pure audioz stuff and really give a PLUNGE to creations not only leeching.

Give a man a cracked app and enrich him for a day. Teach a man to code and he will enrich everyone with more warez.

Good one, though it doesn't apply here, this is for developing not to learn cracking.
The good ol' saying was "give a man a crack, and tomorrow he'll be hungry again. Teach a man how to crack and he won't ever be hungry again"
Welcome DirtyDonWan btw

Very nice post, I will keep it safe in a corner until I get more familiar with C++, then this will be surely a great resource! Thanks, really appreciated!

Coming from the cracking scene(NOT ACTIVE anylonger), there are several differences between source hunting and to develop an audioenvironment code. This book is good to learn the framework for VST and how it works. You get a good insight how to improve your design and how to write code but also how to write more efficient code that will improve your workflow.
Also audio specific codedesign is quite tricky, which the book will explain. There are several examples and case studies about this. How to design stable oscillators, envelopes, filters, modulators and some classic dynamic and afterklang effects.
But keep in mind it's not that easy to start fresh, you must have a bit of fundamental understanding how a certain sound is working, how the code would make it sounds that way.
Nevertheless, this is a good book with lots of examples to help you develop your own designed softsynth.
Okay, this is only my opinion and my thoughts, but hey I know what I am speaking of so take my opinions or just move on :)
Have a nice one!

I was going to say the same ... Knowing how to program in C++ is not enough to build a good virtual filter/instrument, you need also to know how sound works, sound algorithms, electronics, and so on ... So, no doubt this can be a good book, but i'm afraid that anyone interested seriously with that will need some other audio theory bedside books to complement that.

Whops! ... Forgot to say thanks for the share!
