English | March 18, 2025 | ISBN: 0593850971, 9780593850985 | True EPUB | 256 pages | 5 MB
You can learn to play music, no matter what you've been told about your musical talent or aptitude. Each and every one of us has been gifted with a fully customizable brain, one we can mold to learn anything, at any age. With the right instruction and methods, learning to play music can be an endless source of joy and fulfillment. And learning to play music isn't just fun, it's also the ideal brain fitness activity.

Dr. Turknett, a neurologist, self-taught multi-instrumentalist, and the founder of Brainjo and the Brainjo Method of instruction, which has been used successfully by thousands of people, distills the principles of learning to play music down into a set of universal "laws" that can be applied to any instrument. His innovative and proven approach synthesizes the latest in neuroscience and skill-building theory, emphasizing practicing smarter, not harder, recognizing that there is no failure, only feedback, and leveraging the immense power of subconscious learning.

Anyone Can Play Music: I ask: At what level?

Sincerely, putting human beings in the same group does not generate trust and credibility. We know it is not like that.

Brainjo Method: A neuroscience-based instructional approach designed for adult learners.
Me: How is this calculation done with just a few miserable thousand people? We would need to test at least 100 thousand, and from which areas? From a population that had the same type of education, or from chaotic civilizations that claim to be first world?

He said: "Musical talent or aptitude":
Me: You may possess all of this, but without studying at least six hours a day, you'll never achieve anything; and not touch what you already know, but learn new things. I believe more in the American psychologist and behaviorist B.F. Skinner, effort and reward.

Fascinating and thoughtful reply in my opinion. Also balanced and humble in that you stated at the end that you might learn something. I am a student of learning theory, neuro-biology and medicine in general and am intrigued by this subject as well as your comments and critiques. I appreciate the time you took to write this comment which has made me chew on several aspects of the topic, your experience and the literature on this topic. I am just now finishing Talent is Overrated by Geoff Colvin and many of these issues are discussed and debated. Thanks again. Isn't it nice that sometimes we actually have a discussion here. :)
