A common mistake, he is even known as 'Tom Jobim', such a voice!
All 10 real guitar amazing arrangments. I like his other 3 songs:
Pity that doesn't have the most enigmatic song I've ever heard, I could not even translate, the woman singing is something magnificent.
Waters of the March Season

Jobim's Surfboard
or, I love 'Walter' playing the same Surfboard at his Hammond B3 or Surfboard on Ac. Guitar

and Jobim's amazing 'Golden Clouds'

Thx 'Burt Bubacarak'

Hans, the woman singing called Elis Regina and she was one of the top brazilian singers ever. I encourage you to know other recordings from her like:

Elis Regina Só tinha de ser com você ;

here Trem Azul - Elis Regina (última apresentação ao vivo);

I didn't know her, my father played "Jobim - Waters of the March Season" old vinyl at home when I was a child, but I thought that was French or Spanish. The sound never left my head, thanks 'minock' for the links, I loved it.

Only one correction that makes the difference:
When a person is top and contributor, never use past was or diminutive.

As 'Gisele Bündchen': she is one of the top Brazilians.
'Rachmaninov': he is one of the top Russian.
'J.S.Bach': he is one of the top German.
'Ravel' and 'Debussy': they are the French top.

People who never die. They are like SAiNTs.

Glad you like it Hans!
That's very well said... indeed.
Mainly 'cos I'm not a native english speaker... I'm Brazilian!

Besides living on recordings that perpetuate the enormous talent of this great brazilian artist, I emphasize that she lives also through her beautiful and talented daughter Maria Rita. All the best Hans!

Every human being, every soul is unique in the universe, nobody continues in anyone, it's like a digital for every soul.

I think she is fruit of artistic nepotism, when people arrive by indication and not by merit, the daughter of that gorgeous singer, has technical forced and an artificial talent, there are hundreds like her. But I wonder 'Yamandu Costa' and 'Angra Band' with 'Kiko Loureiro'.

Another tip: Take the 's' out of https, so the page opens on another tab.

Hi, Hans. Well, in part, I disagree with you.

First of all, the tone of her voice is just beautiful. It Does not sound generic at all, especially in a world dominated by endless vocalises played over fff dynamics coming from american soul/black music deformed patterns broadcasted worldwide by programs such as SuperStar, The Voice, The X Factor which has been contaminating popular music in general.

Second, at the beginning of her career, Maria Rita did not play her mother's songs. He started playing because of her family's insistence (by his father and brother, mostly). Then she began to sing, but with her own work, and always felling very uncomfortable in singing songs interpreted by her mother. But the brazilian mass media always asked her to play a couple of Eli's songs, and so she did, but she alwyas said that she did not feel well in doing this precisely because she will be judge into one of two extremes: not being as good as her mother and/or trying to succeed at the expense of the mother's work. But, two years ago, she did some shows because of a project in honor of Elis Regina's 70 years. I even went to one of the shows and, visibly, I realized that she was not comfortable on stage. But when she performs her own repertoire, she becomes another interpreter, smiling, playing, dancing, etc. And if you listen to Maria Rita's current works, you will see that she does not record her mother songs for some time (her latest works are more focused on samba).

Personally, I do not think there's anything wrong in her playing some songs played by Elis. It would be the same as saying that Dweezil Zappa wants to promote himself at the expense of his father. Sons perform their parents' work, basically to honor them, to remember the importance they had and to make some money from it (there is nothing wrong with this either).

Yes Yamandu and Kiko are excelent musicians. But talking about eletric guitar players, do you know Frank Solari? I prefer him over Kiko a thousand times, easily.

Frank Solari - Bulita

You see, I think Kiko is very good technically, but still lacks some feeling. But Kiko learned how to promote himself and the fact that he joined Megadeth helped a lot in his career.

You see, Yamando, Solari and Elis Regina are from brazilian south region (culturally forgotten by the Brazilian mass media, centered in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo cultural events). It is also worth noting that Elis Regina gained fame not only for the unique voice but for incorporating stylistic archetypes closer to the values exalted by the Brazilian mass media. Besides, Solari is a very quiet and reserved guy that does not like to publish daily videoblogs like Kiko does (Kiko comes from Rio de Janeiro, second host city from brazilian mass media).

I think it is important to differentiate cases where ther's overexposure without talent from cases where there is overexposure based on a lot of talent (Maria Rita, Kiko, Dorival Caymmi's sons, etc.). And some cases like you've cited where amazing musicians hate overexposure (more or less like Elis, and in the case of Yamandu and Solari that, besides not enjoying overexposure, are almost totally forgotten by the mass media).

But you know, at the end, if musical taste is something very personal, it is also influenced by the context that surrounds the listener: musical taste reflects cultural trends, personal experiences and values.

Glad to speak with you. As always, all the best to you pal.
PS: thanks a lot for the "s" tip!!!
