Chopin: The Piano Concertos by John Rink screenshot
English | Publisher: Cambridge University Press, 2003 | 149 Pages | PDF | 5 MB
Chopin's E minor and F minor Piano Concertos played a vital role in his career as a composer-pianist. Praised for their originality and genius when he performed them, the concertos later attracted censure for ostensible weaknesses in form, development and orchestration. They also suffered at the hands of editors and performers, all the while remaining enormously popular. This handbook re-evaluates the concertos against the traditions that shaped them so that their many outstanding qualities can be fully appreciated.

It describes their genesis, Chopin's own performances and his use of them as a teacher. A survey of their critical, editorial and performance histories follows, in preparation for an analytical 're-enactment' of the music - that is, a narrative account of the concertos as embodied in sound, rather than in the score. The final chapter investigates Chopin's enigmatic 'third concerto', the Allegro de concert.Chopin: The Piano Concertos has won the Wilk Book Prize for Research in Polish Music.

THE COMPOSER. Such a book, all about his 4 piano concertos, that I tooked a life to like them all.
Chopin orchestration is pragmatic and he was still learning to write for a large orchestra, and even so, he has achieved a great feat, because his orchestration is in favor of his piano solo style, despite the influences he had of 'John Field', 'Hummel' and 'Bellini'.

Undoubtedly one of the most fascinating and important composers in the history of music. In his criticisms in a French newspaper, he said that Beethoven was useless and bach was useful. But, Chopin is forgiven for, spiritually, he must have changed his mind.
Even because no one is forced to like the music of others, and even because your opinion is only good for you.
In fact, it is preferable to believe in people who change a lot of opinion, than to follow people who have eternal fixed ideas.

It's a pity he died so early, almost 40 years old, but if 'Chopin' had lived another ten years, he would have composed great orchestral works with the sound quality that only he had.
