Join studio wiz Eli Krantzberg for a comprehensive video tutorial series on Circular, the new polyphonic sequencer virtual instrument from Native Instruments that presents bold new possibilities in the world of film/TV/video game scoring or other cinematic-style productions. In this Circular video course, Eli breaks down each component of this instrument, explaining how to select different sound sources, program sequences, tweak the sounds, add modulation, add effects, and much more. By the time you're through with this series, you'll be ready to start using Circular right away in your very next production. These Circular videos are designed for new Circular users.
Eli welcomes you to the Circular course with a quick overview of Circular, how it's structured, and what it can do, followed by a look at the display and interface so you'll know how to get around quickly and efficiently. You'll see how to adjust the velocity and duration for each step of the sequence in all four parts, which alone presents plenty of variation, though it's only the tip of the iceberg. Then Eli shows you the basic layer controls, such as selecting different sounds, selecting which notes will play or not on each layer, copying and pasting layer settings, and more.
Next, you'll learn how to use the Random rhythm panel to generate random sequences of note velocities to replace the current sequence of the selected layer. You'll then learn about the relationship between different lane lengths and see how they interact with each other in various ways. The Euclidian panel follows, with which you'll learn how to quickly generate a sequence with a designated number of steps and notes at full velocity, spread as evenly as possible.
Other topics include the MIDI Recorder panel (record active layers and export the sequence as MIDI patterns in your DAW), sequencer settings/modes (defining crucial timing parameters, choosing which notes will play, etc.), Step Duration lane (establishes step length, playback order, and more), Parameter lane (for controlling note velocities, probability, transposition, and length), Step FX lane (up to three effects per step for each layer), Sound lane (setting up different sample parameters for each step, such as sounds, sample offset, tuning, filters, modulation, etc.), using your own samples (importing your own audio samples into the Sampler lane for use with Circular's playback controls), FX page (setting up send effects and add modulation to specific events), Mixer page (for levels, pan settings, send amounts, output settings, etc.) and more!
Circular represents a fun, addictive way to create some amazingly complex soundscapes with countless opportunities for variation in no time at all, and this course will show you all you need to know in order to use it right away with confidence. Whether you just want to stick to scrolling through presets and adding a few effects or dive deep and tweak each and every parameter for ultimate creative flexibility, it's all here. Check out the individual Circular video tutorial descriptions for more information on everything this instrument can do and how you can use it to generate stellar cinematic sequences quickly and easily. What You Will Learn:
-Selecting sounds for each layer and tweaking them with various parameters (filtering, envelopes, etc.).
-Using the Random Rhythm and Euclidian panels to quickly generate sequences of notes to replace the current sequence on the selected layer.
-Recording the sequence on a selected layer and exporting it as MIDI patterns for use in your DAW.
-Applying Step FX (up to three per step for each layer) and send effects to specific sounds or the entire instrument.
-And much more!
