Imagine mastering your mixes without causing the lifeless, squashed, and over compressed sound that has become so common in modern music. We have all been at the mercy of the "loudness wars" for over ten years now. Masters have become louder and louder, at the expense of the music becoming harsh and lacking punch and dynamics. One of the main causes of this epidemic is the use of the Peak Limiter to achieve increased levels in the mastering stage. Peak limiters attenuate transients and often reduce punch, stereo imaging, can greatly alter mix balances, and cause a fatiguing result to the ears.

This release brings memories. It never worked too well. It doesn't pay fair justice to the legit version, now in AAX version.

I used the PC version quite a while ago, now I have the original.

I found this: Slate Digital FG-X v1.0 AU VST RTAS MAC OSX-Team XVX

on another website. And XVX versions usually do work.

As I assume we may not link to other sites, similar to this I suggest you

Yep, this is old ilok-1 era AIR release indeed.
But this doesn't matter. This is one of the worst limiters (clippers). It distorts and crackles on the first hints of gain reduction. Slate plugins = useless hype.

Some types of music masks this distortion well, but for them simple clip/softclip will do equally well or usually better.

Usage of clipping in mastering should be forbidden, not glorified by "cool" UI.
If you want to support me a little, register a free uploaded dot net account from any mine release page at least, this yields some bonus points.

dear demontoad you are right if your Mix is originally so hot & as you start limiting with any plugins or hardware devices so your final product will be distorted even if its not clipping. so Slate's FG-X is not an exception in this case.

Clipping distortion at master stage are most of the time poor gain management at mixing stage. So many people still think they should be as near as possible as 0 db at mixing stage (and use poor mettering tools, mostly none, to do so). This is digital. Approaching 0 db as no sense. A good healthy mix should pick à -2 at best. RMS values depends on style and programm.
