Giulio Zausa VirtualJV (Roland JV-880 Emulator) + ROMS WiN Mac [FREE] screenshot
FREE | Win Mac VST3 AU | 171 MB
JV-880 emulator, as VST/AU plugin.

You'll need ROMs to use this software. During the first run you will be able to open the destination ROM folder. Copy your ROMs there, restart the plugin, and wait for a minute for the first load to happen. Have fun!

NOTE (Windows): If you are having troubles with Windows 10, it's possible you need to install the Visual C++ 2022 Redistributable.

NOTE (MacOS): If you are having troubles with MacOS, it's possible your operating system is blocking the plugin because it's coming from an unregister developer. You can allow this plugin by running this command on a terminal:

sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Users//Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/jv880.component

This is great... I still have my JV-880 although some of the buttons needs contact cleaner or switch replacement and last time I switched it on, the display wasn't great. I had one of the expansions too but can't remember which one. Has some great all-round sounds too and remember JV-Heaven and Arasian Morn presets I love.

Is the fourth factory preset "Brass Sect" what Thomas Dolby uses in 'May the cube be with you'? I thought I recognised it as soon as I played it.

Thanks for this, wasn't aware of this until seeing it today, I guess maybe the JD-990 is next? Wishing it at least!

Yes I noticed... too bad.
It has probably become corrupted internally, so for now no clue.

Where did you put the ROM files? I think your problem is there.

If you can give more precise informations (better if you post pictures) it might help to better understand why you get Logic crashes...

- Download the last version of the plug (was update yesterday).

- Codesign the AU plug with Terminal: sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/jv880.component (Enter, Insert Password, Enter).

- Drag ROMs files here (not in the AU folder): HD/User/Yourname/Library/JV880

- Now launch the Stand Alone app (should now open without any problems) and see if all work.
In the folder ‘JV800’ there is a ‘Cache’ folder. You will see that Stand Alone will create copies of the ROMs files there (see image below)... Don't know why, but files need be dubbed.

Files dubbed...

- If all went well close the the Stand Alone and launch Logic.

I think the plug is still in the Beta version (it will certainly improve in the near future), so installation is still a bit empirical...
Retry the new procedure above, it is tedious but not impossible.

Has anybody downloaded the RDPIiano from Github, which is also made by Giulio Zausa? It's no longer available there, all the links to the program files go to 404 pages. It sounds amazing in the video demo.

Thank you very much! I found it on my hard drive yesterday, I'd already downloaded it, but I'd put it in a folder called 'Giulio Zausa RD Piano' and didn't realise.

From my observations many of the patches of this plugin are similar to my hardware JV-880 but none have the same depth, warmth and 'yes' factor. Filters? Modulation? ADDA conversion? Noisy cabling? I don't know why but if this represents the future of musical instruments the entropy is apparent.

Useable? ... Definately.
Alternative? ... Yes.
Replacement? .... Sure, why not?
Different? ... Yes.
Better? ... Stupid question.
