The Usual Suspects Vavra v1.2.36 microQ DSP56300Emu VST VST3 AU LiNUX CLAP [FREE] screenshot
761.2 MB | v1.2.36 | MAC / WiN / LiNUX
The Usual Suspects, the developers of the DSP56300 emulator, have dropped Vavra, a new Synthesizer plugin recreating Waldorf microQ.

Many well-known 90s virtual analog synthesizers are based on the Motorola DSP5630 DSP. For example, the Access Virus series A, B, C, TI, the Clavia Nord Lead 3, Waldorf Q, or the Novation Nova synthesizers.

Vavra is an emulation of the Waldorf microQ from 2000—one of the first virtual analog synthesizers. It featured 25 voices (expandable up to 75) with 5 oscillators per voice, two multitype filters with FM and distortion, four envelopes, three audio rate LFOs, effects, and more.

The project’s core is, once again, the DSP56300 emulation plugin. It’s available as a free download.

Vavra is currently in the beta version, a very young emulation with many teething problems.

quote by Hugo Vinagrei guess that even with SineWave explanation you dont get it. the waldorf does not have an analog filter. so why would you need an analog filter to get a full blown waldorf ?

"In addition to the Q there is also a Waldorf Q+ synthesizer, which is similar to the Q Keyboard but adds 16 analog filters and up to 100 voices polyphony." there is no need for analog filters but they can sound nice - thats also the main difference between the Arturia microfreak software and hardware

Right mouse button on the GUI > Scale. I have it at 75% as it's really big at 100% at 1080p. It's a bit too big at 75% too but the font is too small to read if you put it any lower. Osirus suffers from the same big GUI-small font sickness. But hey, they both sound awesome... :P

Back in 99 i had one of these, as i did the Virus/A /C/Indigo.
And never in my wildest drea
ms did i think there would be a a 150% faithfull non emulation of the original that modeled as mr wave righty noted the motorola dsp used in both hardware synths,
For me its an enormous leap forward in technolgy, to the degree i almost feel like an old fart

Natrually works just fine, win 10, intel 8250u.
Ive the luxury of damn well knowing this sounds exactly the same as the hardware i once owned and with no variation other than da conversion!!

Although i do have an issue with the roms, as with the virus despite them being in the correct location neither plug can access the other roms? ideas

Just place the roms in the Plug-in Folder (VST / AU etc.) without being in a folder tho...

This is a phenomenal representation of a Waldorf Synth. I used to own the MicrowaveXT. This and the Access emulation are amazing IMO.

I've been waiting for this. must have !
thank you

I knew I shouldn't have tried this thing - sounds really amazing, to say the least! Anything else that sounds like this in software? Lol. Problem is I can only use it safely in mono mode (it's a real cpu killer in poly mode). Hope it gets more cpu friendly with next updates! And a big thanks to everyone involved!

Unfortunately yes - it is 2x more demanding than Osirus with C ROM. Hopefully they will make it less demanding on the CPU. Mono mode and using one instance and all 16 MIDI channels in multi mode is a solution for less capable CPUs. And more capable CPUs, too. I liek to have other cores available for other plugins...

Reducing the amp env release also helps minimizing the cpu demand in poly patches

I owned the microQ in few versions with his brother Q, i do still own the phoenix Q plus (analog signal path vcf overdrive and vca) that sounds completely different in the face of the Q ..already posted and confirmed on gearslutz era in some old posts, so i know this sound.
The microQ was lack in the DA converter section..all users missed the punchy of the Q and some more features, but now guys you can enjoy your perfect audio card converters, this gem is a something that you cannot even imagine few years ago, just check how it does sit in the mix compared to other vst :)
Enjoy it, im old enough to say to my son how lucky you are to having such technology in your hands…enjoy it!

I have already tried it. It works well even though ver 1.2.36 is actually an acerbic Beta version, a kind of immature preview awaiting several refinements. But already it points out its potential. Surprisingly light on the Cpu, compared to its brother Osirus..

Light on the CPU as compared to Osirus? Are you sure? My task manager shows Vavra uses 1 whole core+ 4-12% of another on my i7-6700K at 4GHz and Osirus with C ROM uses 48-52% of one core. I'm talking about when you load the plugin and just idling, touching knobs causes that difference of 4-8% .

Vavra is heavier on CPU compared to Osirus, and that's even by design. Vavra actually emulates two chips.
Since I'm too lazy to sum this up myself I'm leaving a screenshot of a little conversation about Vavra's CPU usage from the discord here. Might be interesting for some.

Sorry guys for the "delay" but I have some family issues.
Certainly SineWave, Yes I am sure. In fact I had been checking precisely because it was surprisingly strange to me as well.
I tested on a intel 2,8 GHz i7 quad-core (I7-4980HQ) on a 2015 Mbp, which is not so recent Mac laptop.
Cmq I post two pictures that are much more eloquent than words. As you can see on the top line there is the overall load on the System obtained with iStatMenus which shows from left to right, first the % of the GPU load, and then the 4 CPU cores. Also look at the load on the CPU in the top right DAW. I have been alternately running the same midi clip. Whatever patch I choose on VAVRA the CPU runs around 1-2-(when I move knobs 3%), while on Osirus on average we are on 7-8-(when I move knobs 9%). So, at the end, On system, measured individually, they weigh essentially the same, but on the DAW VAVRA is 6 % points lighter. ( )
Did you also try to do mqPerformanceTest from terminal?

This is a nice addition from TUS, knowing that Micro Q are from early 2000s and compared with my Blofeld, the VST sound a little dull. I use Osirus a lot and it really have a powerful sound compared with Vavra. I don't know if it's just my perception. Thanks for share!

Its not loud because it gets loud once you explore the setting. But if your using it str-8 from the presets, you can turn up the volume right clicking.

To use the random function press and hold shift and hit global/utility button to enter the menu...then scroll to random sound and press and hold shift and hit the global/utily button again and voila!!! to "hold shift" you press it twice until it blinks.
