Compatibility information for VST to RTAS Adapter 2.0

- VST to RTAS Adapter and Mac OSX 10.7 and 10.8
- For the adapter to work in 10.7 and 10.8, it is necessary to set permissions on the /Library/Application Support folder so that it is possible to read and write its contents. If it is read-only (this is the default on 10.7 and 10.8), the adapter cannot function.

General compatibility

The current compatibility status of the adapter is that it works for VST2.3 plugins and many VST2.4 plugins. It is not possible, due to technical reasons within Pro Tools itself, to update the adapter to work with all VST2.4 plugins. It is possible for the plugin vendor to update their software for compatibility with the adapter with minimal effort.

The VST to RTAS Adapter consists of a simple and easy to use configuration utility which scans for VST plugins on your system and creates RTAS plugins from them.

Once created, the VST plug-ins are available for use inside Pro Tools as RTAS plugins.

VST Effects and instruments are supported, and there is negligible CPU usage involved: less than 0.05% per plugin instance on a 1GHz computer.

Bootcamp your box and duel boot with windows 7 and use PT10 for windows it works yes

but Sugar Bytes Transvst would be much better tongue

No sooner had the cool Sugar Bytes TransVST been launched than it was pulled. We have a statement from Avid Today.

“Sugar Bytes are outstanding developers who are bringing great-sounding plug-ins to market including AAX plug-ins. The Avid plug-in developer agreement that developers sign is for plug-ins that can be used with Pro Tools and other Avid products. Other types of products, like the wrapper, require our specific permission, as we granted in the case of FXpansion. We maintain this permission step in our efforts to ensure a quality experience on our audio platform and to carefully consider the effects of these exceptions on customers and developers. We appreciate Sugar Bytes”

Bloody monopolists. They want everything for themselves and a buck for every little thing they make. baah. Thankfully I couldn't care less about brands. I just use everything that works, is practical, and cheap or freeware. Except the hardware, of course... LOL Even though there is Open Source hardware now, too. ;)

Some of my clients use Pro Tools on Windows and this FXpansion adapter works pretty good, but I wouldn't know about PT higher than 7.4 as that's what they use. In some cases, RTAS version of a plugin won't work, but a wrapped VST version will. ;)
