OVERHEAT YOUR CHANNELS

OverHeat is a plugin that emulates the warm, harmonically-rich sound of analog saturation. It is designed to add depth, warmth, and character to digital audio recordings by replicating the natural distortion and compression that occurs when analog signals are pushed to their limits. With its intuitive interface, this VST plugin is easy to use and offers a range of customizable parameters, such as input and output gain, saturation level, and tone shaping controls. You can use it to add subtle coloration to individual tracks or to create full-bodied analog warmth across an entire mix.

This analog saturation VST is suitable for a wide range of music genres and can be used on vocals, drums, guitars, bass, and synths, among others. Whether you're looking to add vintage vibe to your recordings or want to achieve a more cohesive and polished sound, this plugin is a must-have tool for any music producer or engineer.

In addition to its audio processing capabilities, this analog saturation VST is also optimized for low CPU usage, allowing it to be used on multiple tracks and even on a master bus without causing any performance issues. Its lightweight design makes it suitable for use on any digital audio workstation, including Logic Pro, Reaper, Ableton Live, and Cubase, among others.

Whether you're working on a new song, a film score, a podcast, or a commercial, this plugin can help you take your audio to the next level and give your recordings the warmth, richness, and depth they deserve.

UNDER THE HOOD
OverHeat is modeled to emulate tube saturation principles wich usually ads offset before non-linear processing. It creates a more realistic and natural-sounding saturation effect. By modeling the harmonic content of the signal before it undergoes non-linear processing, the plugin is able to add harmonics in a more musical and pleasing way, enhancing the overall character and tonal quality of the sound. This results in a more expressive and dynamic sound that can add warmth, depth, and interest to digital recordings.

124mb?! What is in this plug-in? The whole of Reaper, with stock plug-ins and all, is 8x smaller!

EDIT: Noticed that most of it was the Mac installer. Still 45mb for the unpacked win installer.

I hate them. Most of them sound good, some even great, but the 100k different files (most of them being UI image files) for every plugin is idiotic. If only they could use some kind of library/resource file format to package everything nice and tidy, it wouldn't have been such a PITA to install and uninstall their software.

I'm going to give this a try tonight, but I have to say, the demo makes it seem like all it does to your audio is contort it into a burnt turd.
Appreciate the heads up on this, LDVN.

So, I'm still less than impressed. As it didn't sound like "heat," just bad, brittle crunch, I skipped over putting it up against any warm units and went to the dirtiest thing I have in my arsenal that isn't blatant Death Metal distortion, UA's Dent2. (I know there's filthier units, but I don't use a lot of distortion, cept as a guitar effect.) In summary? I can get largely the same effects, and with the same digital vybe, with Dent2, namely the with the preset Factory Presets >Light>Crispy Hiss, mimicking OverHeat's "Drive" with Dent2's "Rez" turned all the way down, and "Bits" turned all the way up (as a starting point, to match "Drive" at moderate settings,) and to match the "Color" knob on OverHeat, simply fiddle between Dent2's "Bias" and "Out" controls. Is it exact? Nope. But it is pretty close, with the breaking up of the mid-highs, and the splattering of the lows (partially why I wasn't a fan.) So, if you want a more streamlined route to some filthy, digital crunch, maybe this is a perfect, crunchy channel-topper, or even late-chain decimator for you; to each their own.

A lot of Intermodulation and some mess on signal phase. Nothing else...

I have FabFilter Saturn, which is saturation.
Does FF Saturn already do what this plugin does? Or is it completely unique?

Saturation can differ in a lot of ways, not as simple as just Odd or Even harmonics introduced, or "knee," etc., so it's rare that something does *exactly what another plugin does. With FabFilter's Saturn, despite what many would claim, it is *not unique except in its overall workflow, which is nice, as are the options they give you to dial in the type of saturation. And, while Saturn isn't geared towards channel saturation in the same way as a dedicated preamp emulation is (you're not going to get something like Fuse Audio Labs' VPRE-31A tone out of Saturn,) you can definitely coax more of what most would consider a desirable saturation tone out of Saturn than you will with Sampleson's Overheat.
